BOO!
Okay, it's a wee bit early for that, but I love October. This is the month when I can open all the windows, smell the leaves, kick leaves, have a leaf fight. Sit outside by the chiminea sipping hot apple cider and watch the flames crackle.
What I see is a god of death consuming people through starvation.
I don't know who to credit for the photograph, but the source of the image is from this site. I don't read Italian, but if someone does and cares to point out the name of the photographer I will gladly update and cite him/her.
ART NEWS
I once heard an author tell an interviewer she found it hard to discuss her book because she had finished it already and was excited about the new project. I haven't even got my exhibit up yet and already my head is elswhere. My new struggle (apart from the mauve painting-eek) is my next series of work that is roiling around my head. The jafagirls have a group exhibit next June, which means I have 7 months to work on a few pieces."Very Hungry God" by Subodh Gupta
Saatchi has a nice article about it. I know skulls are in at the moment, but this one holds its own for me not just aesthetically, but conceptually. I think it makes a powerful statement even without knowing the story (which is shameful) of what motivated it.What I see is a god of death consuming people through starvation.

Yes, skulls are definitely in - and judging by your work and other works (Hirst, Subodh etc...), it just shows how much more potential than just the perfunctory addition to the crossbones...
Nice one...
*HUGS*
When is the big day?? I want to make sure I have it right.
Hugs,
Sue
My Italian is a bit threadbare these days, but you could try using Babelfish to translate. (Mostly, it goes on about the other featured artists and exhibitions at the Palzzo.)
I love the Saatchi pic which shows the skull on a pontoon on the canal!
Hehehe can I help somehow?!
M.
Nice to see you angela, hope all is well at your end.
susie, opening is art stroll night oct 19th. Will probably post the info on my blog or the arts council blog as the time nears. Would be lovely if you could make it :)
Lincoln I always like popping into your blog, your photos are always a delight.
Wasn't that story just awful dinah! but yes, the skull on the pontoon, I bet it was a sight to behold.
I don't how these things get set off and become a trend Jan, maybe designers. I got my skull scarf 2 years ago, and I do know a brit fashion designer was having a hit with skulls on bags.
Hiay maria, I was just wondering if anyone could go to the link where I got the photo from and it stated who took the photograph.
The metal skull sculpture is awesome - wow, I couldn't stop looking at it. I can't imagine how it must look in person. That song is going to be stuck in my brain all day now...
Take Care

Two: Subodh Gupta's skull is so much better than those others from the 'art strumpets'. Powerful.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
