Weeping Angel Gravestone

Yes, this is coming up for the month, gravestones and skeletons and all things halloweenish.  BUT don't need October to appreciate the world of gravestones and the beautiful and at times heartrending images for lost loved ones.

I was invited to join Graveyard_dead and giving a shout out here and a thanks for the invite and the wonderful welcome. This is a stellar group with some amazing photographs.

This was taken at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati which is recognized as a National Historic Landmark. Forgotten Ohio lists some info on some of the most notable headstones.

It has not been without some controversy involving spongebob squarepants.

Eye Embroidery:Love Lies Bleeding

Mixed Media Hand Embroidery
linen, embroidery floss, acrylic paint, wire, vintage avon perfume
Finally finished, framed and ready for exhibit in October at IN A FRAME.
I was given some Amaranthus Caudatus a couple of years ago and decided to use it to dye some fabric and felt the common plant name, love lies bleeding, an appropriate title for this piece.

Skull or Skellie a Day for October

Not talking about the wonderful Skull-A-Day.
No, I'm talking about posting a skull or skeleton pic everyday on Instagram for the month of October.
Here is my kick off pic
halloween skeleton pic
Mostly featuring my wooden skeleton in the closet, esqualita, or Esmerelda as my friend Sandi calls her.
If you are interested in how I did this, I used my iphone, but since I use several apps to tweak the image I can't tell you exactly. It's kind of intuitive and individual process for each one. The paint effect however was achieved with SuperPhoto app.

Meanwhile in October
Gearing up for a show at IN A FRAME
 featuring my embroidery butterflies.
a small interactive exhibit at the Springfield Museum of Art
will be posting into about that on the jafagirl blog.
I think one of my pics is included in a new book? More about that later.

Creepy Doll

Actually the doll itself isn't creepy but the creepy factor seems to come out in my photographs. I feel almost the same about dolls as a I do clowns, always seeing an undertone of sadness in them.

Art pal, Sandi, loaned me her vintage doll and I've had fun experimenting. The above shot I used an old camera app on my iphone.
b&w photography doll
I call this water baby and I photographed her under a pyrex glass dish filled with water and a few drops of oil. No special lights, just natural light by the window and again using the "old camera" app.

With these two photographs I used a paint app to get this effect.

Hope you enjoyed having a peek at my doll pics and thanks for visiting jafabrit's art.

Turd Dreams

She Who Dreams
adobe cut out of painting
Not always sweet, but tainted with the stink of pain that creeps through the soul, wraps it's tendrils around the bones, stabs at the heart, and screams until you wake up
AND then thankfully
you can't remember a bloody thing!

Sketchbook: A Flower for Blondie

10b mitsubishi Pencil, pen, and watercolour pen
Not one for wanting to waste a page I just added the flower next to my ugly doll for my daily drawing challenge.  I had to play with the image of course and used a few apps on my iphone to come up with this version.
