Drawing was a Struggle

Not sure why but I had such a difficult time at life drawing and just couldn't seem to get it together. I was going for economy of line but I struggled with proportion. Hands too, urg. I can do the foreshortened feet, but hands grrrrrrrrr!
30 minute pose
Let's just say I am happy with the right leg and the foot, difficult angle, but I was dithering all over the place. I have decided I nedd to do practice drawing every day for the next year.
Studies of hands are in ORDER!

Graffiti Merge

Just experimenting this morning with merging an image of my painting (my son) and a photo of some local graffiti before I go off to my life drawing. Not sure what I think of it, but I had fun doing it.

C is for Circumbilivagination

design © corrine bayraktaroglu
ooooh, that sounds rather naughty doesn't it? It's NOT. It means going around in a circular motion as in: She saw lots of graffiti in her cicumbilivagination of the USA. Hard not to think it saucy though when one looks up the current definition of vagination but me thinks it didn't have the same meaning back in the 1600's, do you ;) Source Info: Phrontistery

The C embroidery is part of something naughty though, as discussed here. I always find it interesting how many will dismiss the power of words with the idiom sticks and stones but oh my, you say a word they don't like or find offensive they go into spasms of umbrage and get their knickers in a right old twist.
 Had to share ♥

Embroidered 3D Fly

I am just having way TOO much fun with the Free Art Friday Box-ism series.  Just hope those finding them are too.
This one was inspired by Kurt Cobain's quote,
"If you're really a mean person you're going to come back as a fly and eat poop."
photograph,  hand embroidery fly (with wire, gauze, silk embroidery floss, googly eyes), vintage green shag fabric, altoid tin , poop (embroidery floss wrapped around wire).
Not sure when I'll be putting it out into the world, but be sure it's going out in Yellow Springs one Friday in December.
If you want to have some fun recycling tins, check out this site. They have some GREAT ideas, such as covering the lid with polymer clay or creating a small garden.

The joy of being part of a community, and this is just amazingly beautiful.

Free Art Friday has a similar esprit de corps with artists connecting and sharing around the world via fb.

The Magic of Line Drawing

20 minute pose
It's been a year since I did any life drawing and I feel so SO rusty. I had such a hard time with the angle of the head and the feet. Trying to get that sense of skeletal and muscular structure from this angle and with just contour drawing is a real challenge.  I struggled not to fall back on my comfort zone and blend and model.
So glad I was able to go and hope to be able to keep going during the winter months. As the link states, contour drawing is a very "effective way of defining observation skills such as identifying the underlying structure of the subject, relating forms etc."

"It was through the daily practice of life drawing that he cultivated his ideas"

Free Art Friday: Karma Box

Somewhere in Yellow Springs, Ohio
altoid tin, computer parts, rubber cockroach,
glitter, and screaming mouth sticker by moi.

Always intrigues me that some people think they can say what they want, be nasty, or snide and then act like the victim when they are called on it or get a reaction.  They troll the net and social networks hiding behind anonymity or the cloak of self righteousness.

Margot Potter has a funny take on Trolls on her Internetiquette Blog

Yes there is free speech, but it's not a free pass from the consequences of what you say. You reap what you sow, and if you sow toxic seeds, don't be surprised when it's harvest time you eat a bitter fruit.

Potty Mouth Quilt

If you are easily offended don't read further than this cute pic.
of my dog Rufus
you have been warned
last chance
Cauchy is a gal after my own heart, just hates being told what she can and cannot do when it comes to her art, hence the birth of the potty mouth quilt.
Last year I contributed a hand embroidered piece and really wasn't sure how on earth
it would be a fit. Well Cauchy pulled it off, because the resulting quilt is amazing.
I wish it were MINE!

Custom Wedding Christmas Crackers

Spent the morning with jafapal Nancy decorating the Wedding Crackers. It's impossible to find finished wedding crackers in the USA so I bought empty one's from Old English Crackers based in the USA. These are called Ivory Swirl, and after adding an assortment of embellishments with my trusty glue gun I think they look very nice.
Next step is to add the customary cracker joke, a sweet, and a small gift (will be skipping the paper crowns).
For those who are unfamiliar with the British tradition of Christmas Crackers check in with this website. Basically they are a party favour that makes a snap sound when pulled.  Some can be very elaborate and others cheap, but either way the jokes are always groaners.
What kind of paper likes music?
(w)rapping paper.
Why couldn't the police catch the toilet theives?
Because they had nothing to go on.
You get the picture.
and the gifts, LA di DA!

Wee Birdy shows a FAB collection from 2011. It's hard to decide which one's I like the best, the peacock feather one's are stunning.
Well that's enough for today.

Craftivism: Pollution Polly

Apart from making a Trashy Bird for Sondy's exhibit Reincarnated at the Yellow Springs Arts Council I was asked to come to the reception plasticized.
My skeleton in the closet, Esqualita, is modelling my ensemble, which is called Pollution Polly under the Huant Cuture label, ahem!  Could say she is a bag of bones, but not sure you can handle much further this fine Sunday morning, so I shall booger orf.

Yarnbomb in a Box for Free Art Friday

For free art friday my jafagirl pal Nancy and I are creating a new series called BOX-isms, and if I find that term on google I will scream nasty words. I came up with other names but after googling them found others had thought of them first grrrrrrrr.
So the idea is, we recycle whatever we can, and use whatever scraps we have lying around.
This weeks theme is a yarnbomb in a box that has an evil eye on it. There is velcro on the knit twit yarnbomb so it's ready to attach to a branch, a pole or whereever.
