Evil Footstools and WIP

Take a good look at this, because this is an EVIL bloody footstool, I swear it! It attacked me yesterday morning and trapped my little toe. My husband had to extricate me from it. In between my foot in a bucket of cold water, and drinking Tequila's I spent the day full of self pity. On the bright side it means I have to sit at my studio desk and make 160 little bits of art for my art balls, plus I have to figure out what next on the newest Graffiti panel.

I do know it will be called "bad bunny" (read the pink text). I did the bunny and those are the first words I thought of when I looked at it LOL! Haven't got a clue what to do with it next, although I will add the hinges on the left and a small door knob on the right, a few drips from the bunny's feet. oh, pink glitter, must get me some glitter! woo! hoo! sparkly stuff, I love sparkly stuff. Maybe that is why I so enjoy Margot's Blog, full of sparkle, wit and brevity all rolled into one.

ABOUT the MUSIC: well some might question it being music at all LOL! I know some might find it annoying, so just switch off. I LOVE it and from a creative standpoint this is some of what I listen to when I am creating my art (yes I know some might question whether it is art LOL!). This is ME :)

Resin Painting and Oddities

This is my newest piece inspired by one of my favourite artists, frida kahlo, and again following the theme of stencil graffiti art. It's painted black gesso on mdf, a coat of deep red acrylic, then white acrylic. It was then scratched, sanded, then the image painted in oil. In the bottom right I attached a piece of foil I had embossed. The final piece was covered with a resin coat, plus a few sprinkles of fine silver glitter.

I seem to be at a stage in my art life where I enjoy the unexpected (which I suppose is why graffiti/street art and found art appeals to me) more than anything else. Well I found it at a gas station in the middle of nowhere in Kentucky. Talk about kitsch, and odd, and unexpected. It was pure fun to explore. I don't know who did it or why, but I love that it was there.

Photos of Gatlinburg and Smokey Mountains

photo of gatlinburg by c.bayrak

Err, so this is the what the Chimney Tops trail looked like in the Smokey Mountains. I had to swallow a lot of pain meds, bloody mary's and pack ice packs to recover from 2 hours of hiking on this. It is normally a 4 hour hike, but I couldn't make it, despite meds. Oh it was worth it though, just gorgeous. We stayed in Gatlinburg, which incredibly has retained its charm despite a HUGE increase in tourist attractions (we first visited 29 years ago).

Oh, my vending machined arrived, boy those people at candymachines.com are FAST. Now Nancy and I need to get cracking and make some little art.

I'm off for a few days

So I will leave you with my feathered friends here until I get back.

I've got balls
ART BALLS

And it isn't what you might be thinking ;)
Nancy and I are planning on getting a vending machine. We already have the capsules and each capsule will have a little piece of art and a note (a joke, or saying, or trivia or little arty-facts).

Keep yer fingers crossed I can even go on a driving holiday, my back is being a bugger and won't behave, despite mega pain meds. I want my back mojo back.

This is another mural in Keiths Alley in Yellow Springs which I really love by Sarah Dickens. It is always fun to park back there and see what new murals or graffiti is up.

Cockroach Time!

Yep, it's time for my seasonal found objects, "decorated rubber cockroaches". Since painting has slowed down while I completely finish my three panels I decided to start my cockroach collection. I did these one's last year, but my new one's are pretty much the same. The screaming mouth roach is one of my favourites. Mine of course are nothing compared to the live cockroach brooch which sport real Swarovski crystals or Catherine Chalmers who paints live roaches, and some of them are very cleverly disguised. Personally I think I will stick with the rubber one's, if you don't mind :)

I am a beetle, well that is my animal totem :) To find out what yours is visit here and share your results :)

Lesly tagged me on a meme from Christy at Christy's Coffee Break ..... it's a meme called In the Spotlight. I wanted to answer just one question.
What's your favorite childhood memory?
Sitting on the front doorstep in Hetton-le-Hole (an old mining village) when I was about 5 watching the stars twinkle in the black velvet sky, and eating home made chips (french fries)with malt vinegar mum had put in a paper cone. It was a beautiful night and I felt loved and happy.

Naj at My Depictions did the most ADORABLE painting of Rufus based on the photograph below. Got to check it out and let me know what you think.

Art of Nature & Nature of Art

"The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity . . . and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself. "
William Blake
One of the many reasons I love living in Yellow Springs is Glen Helen, a 1000 acre reserve. It is where the Yellow Spring is, waterfalls, stepping stones, trails, indian mounds, a place where the Shawnee walked. We walked for an hour there on Sunday.

I am off in a min to walk with my friend Nancy on the bike trail next to the glen where we get a different kind of view :)

There is a nice photo essay called "Art of The Street" at the Time wesbite .
There is also a poll in which they ask, art or vandalism? It is interesting to see the poll and see that more than ever before street art is being viewed as art rather than vandalism.
