An now for something completely different, NOT!

I will add a hint of very fine red glitter when I coat it with a polymer high gloss resin. So far the resin is going okay on the other two panels, although I hate wearing the filter mask (I am a bit claustraphobic). Should see me with a snorkel, its pathetic, can't last longer than a minute or two before I hit panic and I rush up for air like a mad woman, which sucks because I LOVE snorkeling. Okay, that's another story.

Chris Ofili has done a series of work in which he incorporates glitter, resin and other items, as well as his usual dung (of course). Here is a beautiful example called Afrodizzia on artnet.

I thought I would google resin art/epoxy coated paintings and see what I can come up with and found some nice examples of artists embedding things onto painted canvas and coating it with resin.

Rufus after his bath. Don't be fooled by the cute look.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY
to all you mums out there, but most especially to
MY MUM.

Poor Rufus, looks a little mad??

Zuzu hates a bath, and I dread giving one to her.

I liked the links to other epoxy/resin artworks especially those of Sang-ah choi.

I imagine your mask is a bit like the one I wear to mix glazes. Scared the willies out of my dog when she saw me walking around with it. I sort of sound like Darth Vadar when I have it on too.

Naj, you absolutely have permission to use the photo of rufus. I would love to see what you do :)

First few years in the usa I got totally discombobulated with the different mothers day dates. My mum gets two now, one from my sis in england and one from me in the usa.

Good idea - I enjoyed the links too. This might work with my highly textured paintings. Am wondering where I can buy resin here now!

Jan, in answer to your question yes, smelly. what I find funny is they recommend NOT to breathe in the vapors when mixing and pouring, however one of the best ways to get rid of the bubbles is to exhale (they recommend) on them. BUT don't breathe in. One day I nearly hyperventalated. So I keep my mask on and use a hairdryer and only exhale on the bubbles if I absolutely have to.

Thanks Michelle, I do feel the same way about this one.

Philip, can you order it online?

oh no, ya tagged me lyn lol! glad you are liking what I am doing.

I suppose you must mix up alot. I only mix up enough for half of a bathroom size paper cup and havent noticed much of an odor -- tho I dont stand over and breathe it in either.

Try warming the bottles of resin in some warm water. I have noticed that helps reduce the bubbles. I have also heard that using a straw to exhale works. I have to try that. I have seen people on tv use a torch, but I dont think I want to try that.
jafabrit said…
jan, great tip about the straw, might try that.

Crikey ... he's a scary looking beast (no not Rufus, obviously!). It's a very compelling face and not a little disturbing ... is it for some special show or event?

Oh and the mention of kippers has set me drooling .... but I will leave you to explain what they are! We can get them here in New Zealand but they are imported so very expensive! You can't get haddock though and I love that (the smoked variety served with scrambled eggs).

Hi lesly, I am doing a series of work for my solo exhibit in October.

hum rufus is such a hit he should start his own blog LOL!
I am always fooled by cute looks. That is one of my major downfalls in life.... And, I'm not talking about dogs. LOL.

I like the way this is going and the addition of red glitter should be really interesting. Thanks for the resin-users links - I particularly like the work of Melissa Wagner.
