The Crooked Paths
Today's Inspiration
I have always struggled with Guston's work, particularly the later period. The colour and cartoon quality just did not draw me in toward further examination. I do admire his struggle to explore and express ideas, even in the face of harsh criticism. However, after reading his bio it has given me a better understanding of his work AND a new appreciation.

"Studio Ghosts: When you're in the studio painting, there are a lot of people in there with you - your teachers, friends, painters from history, critics... and one by one if you're really painting, they walk out. And if you're really painting YOU walk out."
