Cancer Voodoo Doll

A friend of the JafaGirls has been diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer so Nancy and I made
a doll with a image of a cancer cell that I printed on fabric, and a pouch to keep it in.
Pins were supplied.
The good news is that it was detected after a psa test and caught early.
There has been some controversy about the psa tests, but I am not sure men who have been diagnosed feel it isn't worth it.

this is a really good idea.
it's physical, rather than just a concept of healing or fighting.
Sorry to hear about the cancer of your friend. Nice touch to provide a voodo doll. Lately I've been reading some 1700 accounts about New England witchcraft and kept finding references to the finding of "poppets" in the 'witches' homes as part of the proof against them. I finally found in later accounts these were puppets. I imagine they were just dolls but I hope yours work magic!
Really like the style and images and thoughts on your blog. I'm adding it to my list of blogs to read regularly. Found you through Creative Perch, from the 31D2BBB - which has been absolutely fabulous!

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. What a great idea to be able to stab the cancer cell with pins!

Not a common response to someone recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, but I like the approach, to visualize the demon & strike back. As per Shana, a direct physical response to a formless threat.

Could there be a market for these "cancer dolls"?

I love the idea! And it's super cute to boot. I'm sure your friend appreciated that you approached it with a sense of humor. I'm sure it's scary enough to deal with as it is.

That is magnificent. I lost my dad to prostate cancer. I wish he'd had a cancer voodoo doll.

San, sorry about your dad :(

Shana, our friend LOVED it.

Gosh Bill if anyone wanted proof against me they would find plenty lol. I have heard of poppets but didn't realize they were probably puppets or dolls.

Linda, thanks for tipping me off about Creative Perch, and thanks for dropping by. I enjoyed visiting your blog :)

Madsilence, my son just told me they are selling plush toy virus dolls at his college. I had a look and they are funny, not quite the same as our voodoo doll, but the idea is.

Kirsten, It made him laugh and right now a bit comic relief is welcome.

Thanks Undaunted.
