Buttons, Paint and Thread

A couple of years ago I was experimenting and did this embroidered painted copy of my daughter's childhood drawing. I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with it at the time. Now I realize it was an early stage of trying out an new idea. I have loved doing the latest embroidery and it's inspired a desire to explore further how to integrate my painting and embroidery (as well as other elements) into art pieces.
Seeing the work of Tilleke Schwarz pushed that desire even further.

IN THE MAIL

I got a postcard addressed to JAFA WORLD HEADQUARTERS and it had me in stitches, thanks Bill (from Under Construction/Art Contemplations) for the chuckle and thanks for the card. This is one of my favourite images (Meltdown) of your work, so thank you.
AND
A big thank you to W-Women Globally for doing an interview on me on their website.

what a great way to preserve/add to your daughter's art work. I often felt that the art my daughter did when she was really little was some of the best because she wasn't worried about what she was creating. I heard a story about the ex-head of Hallmark who used to tell a story about visiting primary schools - he would ask the kindergarten kids how many were artists and all would put up their hands. By the third or fourth grade only one or two would raise their hands.
Hi Corrine, thanks for the shout out. I didn't mention it before but Esqaulita arrived but seems a little miffed that the dog is eyeing her strangely. Had more time over the weekend to look at Tilleke's work and it is inspirational.

Hiay Tilleke, sometimes it is a blessing and a curse. I have so many things I want to do and I can't do it ALL, LOL!

Fiona, That is a shame isn't it about kids. So many times though that creative spirit is crushed. I could never bring myself to throw out my kids artwork, and if I did I always photographed it for the family diary.

Bill, oh dear dem dem bones, it is a doggies dream :)

Jason's only 11 months old, so when he does start scribbling I'll be there with the camera. Love what Fiona had to say - it's true - self judgement and criticism is such an artistic killer! Love the button work, Jafa...more please.

I don't know where you find the time- your blog posts always have such interesting and incredible links, like this one to Tillke's work - glad to see you write that you have soooo many ideas and can't get to all of them - I feel like that always!

I love this piece with the buttons! So cute that it has 4 legs!

My Mum has one of my nephews pieces in a frame on the wall. It is very good, but I feel sorry for my other nieces and nephews who are also very talented but are often overlooked because their style isn't so unique. They draw endless amounts of pictures, and I can't help feeling that they're just hoping that one day my Mum will want to frame one of theirs too.

I think it's wonderful that you kept all of your kids art work.

Congratulations on your article!
Wow! Rock on woman!

Love the bird drawing. The simplicity and feeling of children's art always amazes.
And you brought your own special touch to it!

Congrats on the interview in W Women Globally. The article itself looks like it has some substance, not just a "fluff piece."
