Meanwhile back at the Studio
I have completed the first section of a plastic bag knit graffiti
for our JafaGirl Dayton Street Project.
There are a number of Guerrilla knitters who are recycling plastic bags, and Yarnboming shares a few photos, as well as how to make yarn out of old newspapers (this is really cool).

A miracle - Sherees' web shot is way cool! I finally got on the broadcast (what's the opposite of broadcast-narrow?) and the opening seemed packed. Once again you made my morning now that I know how to spin yarn out of the news. Finally, a way to put insanity to use.

Umm...I think she cut up the plastic bags into strips and twisted them real thin? I'll have to ask her. x

Grandma twisted them to make them, thus the bag, sturdier. You should knit yourself a bag - the ultimate recycled plastic bag!

Is it a texture thing? You like the "crispy crunchiness" of plastic as opposed to the softness of yarn?

The plastic is quite smooth and glides on the needles, which is nice. I think I will try and twist the plastic though.

Recycling, care of the earth, and art go together. I have several beautiful, hand-sewn quilts my grandmothers made. They were both quite poor farmers, and in their quilts they were able to re-cycle old clothing, keep their families warm, and make their homes beautiful. Such has been the tradition of women.

Thank you for all of the interesting links and for your plastic bag knit graffiti. That is too cool.

Jaffy, You are very WELCOME! I got just as much of kick out of grabbing that screen shot because after sitting there looking at that webcam for 2+ hours, I was about to fall off my computer chair. Seeing your sketchbook pop up gave me a good jolt of adrenaline. I needed that!! LOL :-)
