She walks in beauty

Claire's Eye by Jafabrit
Sketchbook Project Page

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
Lord Byron

Love the beautifully colored art, and love the poem; it's one of my favorites.

Such a huge CRUSH I had on Byron, when I was a kid -- despite his iffy personal reputation!

Your blog is inspiring me to do some figurative work - something I am extremely rusty on. One of these days I am going to do it though! Think I will buy some oil sticks!

But I have blue eyes!

Its a beautiful eye, that goes with a beautiful poem. Being culturally slow, I hadn't read it before, tis just lovely.

I always wanted someone, well Byron I guess, to write this for me, it is one of my favorite pieces of poetry ever, to be loved like that would have been something. I wrote a version for myself not so loving tho...
Beautiful!
