LeadBelly

Ink wash study in sketchbook

No, not talking about the folk singer but that sudden feeling you get in your gut, that heavy dull ache that throbs like a pendulum, back and forth eating away at your soul when you hear someone you love is hurt. My son was shot in the eye with a bb gun. It was just one of those bizarre accidents but it was lucky it was a plastic bullet otherwise he may have lost his eye. As it is it bounced off but caused the blood vessels in the eye to bleed and swell. It has been a week now and some of the swelling is down but his eye still bleeds. For another two weeks he has to live in the dark (can't use the good eye either because when he uses it his other eye thinks it needs to work also), put drops in his eye every hour and wait.  My anguish is compounded by the fact that I can't help him because he's a million miles away in another country and I can't just dash over there. He tells me he is okay, tells me not to worry. I am a mother I sit here with a leadbelly and wait & wait & wait.

That's a powerful little sketch. It does capture the anguished helplessness you feel in this situation. My heart goes out to you.

And my best wishes go out to your son. May his eye heal perfectly and may he have the patience to give the healing process the time it needs...

Eek! I'm sorry, hon. My thoughts go out for you & your son. Powerful ink drawing.

That is one powerful image!

Awwww (((Corinne))) I'm so sorry your son was injured and thank goodness he will be OK. Your sketch conveys that pain that you're both going through. I know from experience that eyeballs are pretty tough critters and do heal after a week or so. Twice my daughter accidentally jabbed me in the eyeball (with fingernail) and both times I had to wear an eyepatch for a week. If he said he's OK, hopefully he is well on the way to mending and will be fine soon. I know that doesn't stop the worrying though. :(

corrine, I had no idea! How awful you must feel, because I am not his mother and want to take him soup or do something for him!
can I bring you soup instead?
love,
jen

thanks everyone for your comments and support, and that offer of soup Jen.

I guess for the first time I can say that I did a piece of art as a form of therapy.

OH my can we hope that he will be sent home?

Have a nice cup of tea love and try not to worry. I know it is probably impossible advice but if tea fails maybe try a glass of wine.

A powerful image as befits the powerful emotion you must be feeling. I'll be thinking of you dear.

I talked to him this morning and his eye hemorrhaged yesterday so he had to go and get anti hemorrhage meds which helped. They also changed his other med as it was dilating his eyes too much and he suffered from light sensitivity.

If there is a blessing it is the internet and we could talk via skype and I could see him.

time for another cup of tea.

Jan, Colette, Loretta, thank you for your thoughts. ugh! motherhood! the worry never stops does it?

OW! It's all fun until someone gets shot in the eye:(
I love the sketch, it really captures your feelings. I hope he heals well and good and that you don't go crazy waiting for that to happen. My oldest just had a terrible ear situation, ruptured ear drum. I feel the same freaking way, he's on the other side of the country. Oh, momma...I will say a healing prayer for him tonight and send it on the wind.

oooooooohhh!, i love that eye picture!
oh... that is a strong and beautiful artwork... so much of what we do comes out of pain. I am sorry sorry your son was hurt and hope beyond measure that his eye will recover completely. Yes, so hard to be far away. I was stabbed in the eye with a darning needle by my mother in high school, and have recovered... I wish the same for your Dear One.

So sorry to hear this, and I hope he heals quickly! I can only imagine how you must feel, the helplessness.

Your sketch is fantastic, and painful to look at, actually!

Oh, I just now came to your blog and saw this post. I'm so sorry for both of you! It's the hardest thing, having kids at a distance getting hurt, and you can't help them.

Considering some of the things that my own kids have survived, I'd say that young human beings are shockingly sturdy, all things considered.

But it's never easy, waiting for the healing to be complete!

A dramatic and powerful picture Jafabrit. I'm extremely sorry to hear about your son's accident; times like these are so worrying for a mother irrespective of how old your child is. I have my fingers crossed for a full and speedy recovery for him.

What can i say, that will heal the hurt for both of you. Only that time will heal both the hurt and the pain.

What an image and what a horror for a mom. Kids getting an injury is something we all can relate to. Stay strong; your family is in my heart.
I children bring such joy and heartache sometimes. I know how you feel. My son is far away right now and feeling depressed as he tries to find a job. I wish I could create one for him. I know you want to be there to help him.
Sometimes we can only pray.
