Twilight Beast

Crushed Can Painting
"Twilight Beast"

In the Twilight hours there lurks a beast,
not human, not animal.
whispering horrors into your dreams.

Another great painting. I was wondering, do you paint straight onto the can or do you need to prime it first?

undaunted you can you a tin primer or what I do is use gel medium and collage it first, then gesso it and then use oil paint.

hi jafabrit - i pop by only occassionally, but always enjoy what i read... your comments on changing directions/making things matter is an important one.

most my paid work is academic work on urban stuff: a lot on public space, struggles over these, policing, economic restructuring; and it's only now that there's slowly bits and pieces of that coming into my art stuff - more as concept/ideas/ the stuff that matters than as subject matter.

but at the same time, there's such a strong debate in academia not letting (the wrong kind of) politics/ or political economy dictate academic work/ research. and i think that's probably one of the scary one for all the fear that's kicking about at the moment too: as you say, if people find $25 too much of a piece of art...

this probably belongs to your earlier post more than this one, but i like you tin faces a lot, and with the words this ones a really strong one.

thanks gesa for popping by and sharing your thoughts. I know a little about the struggles of academia and I think it must be almost impossible not to let current economy influence or shape research, etc.
