I found an old library index box in a garage sale and it triggered the idea of how some people like to categorize others, to put them into neat comfortable little categories. “Never judge a book by its cover" yet people do it all the time. Sometimes it's based on an initial impression (and some of those impressions are not always wrong) or based on prejudice, preconceived notions and dislikes. I guess when it bothers me is not that we sometimes do it (I think that is human nature), but that some take their perception as fact and leave no room for accepting that people are not always what they seem and don't keep an open mind.

I think it is human nature to do so since we all have our biases, comfort zone etc. that we bring to the table. In some ways, I think it helps our brain put things into context for us.
That being said, my first impression is often proved wrong if I get to know a person - and...sometimes confirmed. That doesn't mean that I'm going to shun them or disparage them in person or to others, however, I will simply choose not to be their best friend.
Your post gives me something to think about. That's what I like about coming to your blog. And I also love that you play around with tons of different materials and ideas. Awesome.

Yes I think too we can put ourselves in boxes connie, and it can limit our growth.
phew shea! that is quite a compliment but I am not sure I deserve it yet. Maybe after 20 years and I don't feel like an art baby still.
Jan, Undaunted, the body is made up a wire armature and then I added papier mache, then plaster wrap, and the head is oil on stone.
oh gossip bill! that is another human trait that we walk a fine line with.
I think you would be a wonderful arts therapist, you definitely have the knack for it.
