Skull Art: Homage to Basquiat

wip oil on wood
Here is the painting so far, needs a bit tweaking, especially the face and hand and a few areas on the skull. Once it is thoroughly dry I will coat it with resin.

OH HOW CUTE! Okay, well, I gave you the ONE different Kewpie. I know you'll make something amazing.

Your art keeps getting cooler and cooler, as if you're inventing new levels of cool. How do you do that?!

Love you!

Your homage to Basquiat is looking great! And I love that large black and white doll on the right. It makes me think of Banksy.

oh my margot you sure did, and what a challenge, but I do have an idea about what to do margot lol!

thanks undaunted, and what do you mean angela, you wish you were that creative? err! I think you are :)

Shez, shame about the volume, but they didn't say anything profound, so really it was just a chance to see the real basquiat.

Kim, all those drugs took their toll. The film was great, but it didn't really show the depth of his character (and it wasn't all that nice).

Dinah, I loved the link, thanks for sharing it. Ray Ceasar's work is very intriguing.

Jan, the resin has an interesting effect because what it does is soften the look of the paint. It is just a little difficult to show the effect with a photo, but I will give it a go (before and after pic).

Thanks Dee :)

The skull & freaky looking kewpie dolls would probably sell very well here in the New Orleans area. Keep up the good work. :)

Ahhh Basquiat...he was such a beautiful man...such a great artist. Every time I see a video of him, I have this achey, missing feeling for him. Strange. Very strange. I don't know too many artists that really dig him. I knew there was something special about you!! Your homage to him is perfect. Love it.

Peace & Love.

PS I'd be honor if you added my blog to your list...I'm adding you to mine friend!
