Studio Painting
It was snowing all day yesterday, but I've been in the studio working on several projects, drinking lots of tea, and listening to "mourning becomes electra" by Eugine O'Neill. Suffice it to say I am not complaining about being stuck in the house all day.
This is one of the projects I am working on. It is oil on wood and as you can see I started with a grisaille first. It needs quite a few refinements before I can even think of starting glazing it with colour. However I want to fill in the background and add other elements before I decide if she stays black & white or not.
And now for something completely different
I saw these "cute and cuddly" roadkill toys at the sky news website
This one is called twitch the raccoon, however I think it should be called cringe because that is what I am doing at this moment, eek! They describe their toys " that don’t take themselves too seriously." I enjoyed reading their website and cruising their links, I hope you do too.

These "ugly" type toys seem to becoming more and more common. I kind of wonder if they wont see the same fate as the old cartoons that were so "violent".
Roadkill cuddlies? OMG!
Love this painting you've started! Such a psychologically complex face--actually I like it, as is, with everything else more rudimentary and the focus on that wonderful face. You no doubt will allow it to evolve wonderfully. Can't wait to see it at later stages.
I have a real penchant for black and white and this works so well with the 3D face and 2D background...
ps
your new boots...are fab :)
I don't intend for this to stay black and white, but I sure LOVE black and white lone beader.
Hey thanks for dropping by miladysa :)
Thorngren, thanks, I hope it turns out the way I imagined.
Thanks San, I always have a struggle doing colour not because it is hard or that I don't love colour, but I just ADORE black and white paintings. So we will see what I do with this one.
kim, those boots look really cool with my 1920's vintage coat, but oh, impossible to walk in LOL!
but your painting is defintely NOT ugly- thanks for sharing! and I learned a new technique and word--thanks
ckw
I also like the Roadkill doll. Hilarious, I'm imagining you already know about Happy Tree Friends?
Happy New Year and best to you this year.
So, Corrinne another great artwork in progress - I will be interested to see where you go with this one. Keep us posted.
using it for your desktop :) of course I don't mind.
Didn't know about the Happy Tree Friends Kris but these type of dolls and cartoons are very popular aren't they?
Glad you like the painting so far ckw. Worked on the tshirt top today. going to have to leave it for a few days to dry, so will work on another project.
Ugh, those roadkill toys just make me sad...I hate to see some little animal crushed on the road. :( Can't believe someone would make toys from that! :o
Love,
Linda
