Sketchbook: First entry for 2008

I thought if this is going to be the year that is all about
The Doing of Art
then why not draw out my wishes/concerns/dreams for this New Year rather than write them out. It bodes well with me that I start the year drawing my wishes with childlike freedom in my sketchbook, without a thought to artistic merit/concerns.

It's snowing here, looks pretty. Meanwhile my husband is playing with his newest toy; a sound system and the whole house rattles like an old ship in a storm. If our house ends up on the other side of the street I wouldn't be surprised.

I hate sketchbooks. Don't you really? I mean a note book or a sketch book means it isn't until you do something in it. Notebooks, those leather ones edged in gold leaf...they are the worst because then it seems like you need to do your best writing in them. I mean an ink blob would ruin the whole thing. It is pretty much like that with hard bound sketch books. I remember Bert L. Daily used to sell them and I would go down there and buy one or two every year. I have recently thrown a couple away. One sketch in one book and the pages turned totally yellow and brittle.

However...the intention is honorable.

I like your photo selection today.

I also wanted to thank you for all of the visits to my blog in 2007. And to wish you and your family a Happy and Healthy 2008 from me and Patty.

thanks lone beader :) and likewise. Each time you start a beaded art project I am in awe watching it evolve.

oh noooooooo, lincoln, I LOVE my sketchbook. It is my playground. I tear bits of pages, cut windows in the pages, throw in paint, ink splotches, and anything else that strikes my mood.

Ah! Now that's how a journal should be!This year, I resolve (for as long and as strong as my resolve can be!) to do it directly into the book.Or at least paste in my myriad doodles-on-dockets!
May this year be filled with the inclination to create, the time to do so and the good health to enjoy it.

Great stream of consciousness! I clicked on your journal so I could really see it up close and personal. Why do I feel like a voyeur? Oh well. I'm inspired! Be happy in your new year. I hope we don't have to diet for the whole of it!

cynthia, it is me doing a cartwheel because my back is better (that is what I am working on this year) and I will have reached my goal weight (I hope).

Like the look of your sketchbook, an interesting direction indeed, but like oldmanlincoln, I always stuff mine up. I'm no good at keeping diaries either. I'm thinking a better tact might be to bundle a heap of random papers together, shopping lists ecetera stitch them between an arty cover and pass it off as my terribly arty journal.
I like the new look of your blog too.

thanks loretta, I did try another html template with 3 sections but it wasn't working. I like this one better. I have been keeping scrapbooks, journals/diaries since I was a kid. The sketchbook since I started doing art at 40. The blog really is just an more interactive version of what I have always done.
