Well, I am not sure what to think of this. I like elements of it, the idea, and I love the bunny, but as a whole I am not liking it too much. I am going for gestalt, which really is the theme of my show, that is bringing all the fragments together into a whole (fragments of ideas, life, past and present, dreams, bits and pieces of text, found images weaved with my own etc). Seeing it posted here I see the need to make the bunny stand out more and add a shadow for the ledge, a
trompe-l'oeil effect. This is spuggy, a geordie lass singing the
Blaydon races, and a piece of her heart still back home in
Newcastle with her family. For any Geordie readers/expats out there who want to see a little bit of home, check out
Newcastle Upon Tyne Daily Photo blog.
There is a blogger,
Norwegianity, who has seen my work exhibited in Yellow Springs. He has this to about my work: " I'm hooked on Jafabrit's art blog even if I couldn't live in a house with most of her stuff. Seriously, I don't know if I could go to sleep if this bottle was in the room,
but I love looking at it" . I understand! I am not sure I would put a lot of my work on my walls either, which begs the question: "why on earth do I paint them". The answer is simple really. I don't think about work being painted to go on a wall, I paint things to get it
out of my system, to express something.
Today's music is
Lindisfarne, described on Wikipedia as "a popular Tyneside based
folk/
rock group of the
1970s, fronted by singer/songwriter
Alan Hull. Their music combined a strong sense of yearning, often for home, with an even stronger sense of fun".

I'm with Norwegianity, totally, but I'm a shameless hussy and would sleep with it.
Yes. I love your art that much, darling.

I know that the business/marketing side of art is soooo not what we want to do as artists, but I guess sometimes it is a choice between that and renting storage space :-)
I definitely think the kimono piece will cross markets.
BTW, still think you need to contact the Woman Made gallery in Chicago.
glad you love it minx, it is kind of growing on me. Maybe when I pour resin on it perhaps I will like it.
I wish there were more building with little gargoyles on them here lone beader. They add such a fun element to architecture.
I tried the shadow noonan, but arg, wiped it off and will have to redo. It does need it though. noonan I understand exactly what you mean.
Jan thanks for the suggestions. I will ponder on them as I lead up to my exhibit. I want to reassess things after the exhibit in October. I am not happy with the Kimono piece at the moment (either it is lacking something or needs to be framed). I have asked the gallery owner to come and look at it and talk about it. She has a keen eye for presentation and will give me some ideas. I will check out the gallery in Chicago, thanks.
But I like what you said about your art. Believe me, I spend very little time rereading my political posts. The point is in writing them and getting them out of my system. Sadly, however, even after posting about a million words a year, Bush is still president, and there are still creepy things to make art about.
Though, I could live with any number of your pieces...but vampire bunny might not make it into the bedroom. The kitchen would be perfect - or maybe my studio!
We have some local runnaway bunnies that dig up the front garden and chew plants in the night..

just one of those 15 mins of fame things :)
The hits on my site have quadrupled today --initially from the UK. But then there were some from the states. So I got to wondering who she was.
apparently I sell a lot of handbags lol! somehow spam bag sites have decided to use my very unusual name on their search tags.
As always, you are a most interesting artist, and I love your work!
Thanks for posting.
