art of quilted wood

I have a love hate relationship with my current project. I spent 5 hours working on one section and was ready to vomit if I had to do ONE more patch. I have no idea how it will look, but I got it into my head that I wanted to do it and do it I will. It is getting harder to do as the size of it increases. Eventually I will have to build a back brace to support the piece and then I have to figure out how I will add the glaze or resin and where.

It's my birthday later this month and I'll be 52! Dang!!!!!!!!!!!! as the Americans' say, bloody hell!!!!!! as I would say. I look in the mirror and get a shock coz I wonder who the hell I'm looking at. See I still feel like a kid inside, I mean LOOK at my car (aren't those clouds wonderful by the way).

Anyway you know you're getting old when:
You feel like the morning after, and you haven't been anywhere.
Yea! what's up with that!
You don't remember being absent minded.
Sheesh that never used to bother me.
When a sexy babe catches your fancy and your pacemaker opens the garage door nearest you.
This doesn't apply to me but I thought it too funny.
Your idea of weight lifting is standing up.
ha!ha! but it's true.

*sigh* I guess that makes me really old then!

My Wife keeps trying to get me into knitting/crocheting - maybe I might give it a try some time (I keep wondering how easy it'd be to break up a photo into a grid, and then turn that into granny squares...)
I love the quilt! It would be fun to see the one that you are copying too. What are you using to stitch it with, wire or some sort of lacing?
I'm not far behind you on the age thing. Perimenopause is doing a number on me right now. I still feel like a teenager most of the time though...in mind, if not in body.

WOOO HOOOOO! What day girl? What day? My Birthday's on the 20th. We're BOTH in April! That is too kewl! Now I feel like hopping up and dancing! :) I like that quilt piece looks great! If you choose to add to it I'm sure it will be wonderful because it looks great to me already. You keep up the good work! I shall be back. :) YOU GOOOO!

You look damn good for 52.

I could use the cliche about you are as young as you feel...

Happy Birthday whenever it is.

Take Care

Dang! I just used that word in my blog today too, and lo and behold, I popped over and see it again.

52??? I still feel 13 most days, except when exercising, then I feel everybit my age. It's all the huffing and puffing that used to seem so effortless. Happy Birthday, prematurely.

Your quilt looks good, real good. Maybe you need to take a break and walk away every now and again.

Ok, Angela's got the 20th, you've got the 21st, and I've got the 22nd covered!

That is a really cool quilt... but probably not very warm... ;)

cynthia that is too funny lol! As far as the quilt I feel like a woman possessed, just one more hole to drill, one more patch to stitch together arg! Will have to give it a break for a week, my wrist is hurting.

"hat is a really cool quilt... but probably not very warm... ;)" well it would if you burn it, which is what I feel like doing at the moment. Oh cool, so you have to post a birthday pic :)

ah, thanks sue, it is my youthful personality that deceives people, plus a European way of dressing and doing my hair.

That is a great quilt. Your young yet.

Are you doing these one by one or do you have some sort of production line set up?
jafabrit said…
hi jan, can't do them one by one because it would be difficult to connect them evenly along the edges. What I do is paint 10 patches on a piece of wood, then cut each patch with a scroll saw, reassemble them (bit like a jigsaw puzzle), drill the holes and then stitch together. in order to line up the next batch I trace the edges or the stitched patches so that the next batch line up to them. It is proving to be a very time consuming, labor intensive project. Had I chosen straight edges and same size patches it wouldn't have been so difficult, but I am doing the patches with curvy uneven edges and sizes.

Oh Jafabrit!
You are adorable darling!!
And we should not be measured by our age, but by our spirit - of which you have multitudinous proportions!!! So stop with the silly 52 thing already!
Anyway, I love your quilt, despite your vomitous protestations.
I have almost vomited over the "Wild Thing" wall too many times to mention. Today. Ugghhh...
Are you an Aries or a Taurus?

OMG JB I can't believe your quilt is made out of wood, it looks so soft (love the patterns) and exactly like quilts my gradma used to make, this is an awesome project!
I feel your pain cause I turned 53 last month, ugh!! Here's another saying...when you wake up drenching wet from a hot flash and wondered where you went swimming while aleep! :(
