Rose Painting, sketchbook, found art

I finally finished the rose painting and it was the range of greens that was a real challenge. I had to leave my comfort zone and not use my favourite green, sap green. I mixed ultramarine blue+lemon yellow, and for the underside of the leaves white+black+some of the mixed green.

Here is my latest sketchbook page which shows the colour mix for the Oh Poo! painting. I liked the dark grey (a mix of white+lamp black+raw sienna) but when I wanted a lighter shade and added more white I was not pleased, reminded me of very light coffee colour. Which leads me to my latest found art I called coffee head and left in one of my fave places in Yellow Springs that sells coffee. On the back it says:"Caffeine isn't a drug, it's a vitamin!"

Wooo Very pretty girl! Love the rose! A rose by any other name would smell as sweet...lolol sorry that just poped into my head. (I'm weird) Hehehehe I LOVE that "Ohhh poo" portrait! Any art that has that as a part of it, is wonderful to me! It's all just great work! :)

I love the rose, it's very soft and free of planning, which gives it a "I'm romancing myself" feeling. I really like seeing your journal pages for future work...I don't do that, I just run around with it all in my head all the time and I see now how this type of practice could make things easier for my cluttered mind...uh...duh! Anyway, have a good one...:)

thanks angela, it is always nice to see you here.
hmbt, I like ho wyou see the rose. My sketchbook is a playground, I put everything and anything into it. If a thought or idea or a word pops into my head, quick in the sketchbook. I also keep track of colour mixes for paintings I am working on.

Wonderful rose painting!

I have sent the questions to both of your e-mail addresses. Would you let me know if you receive them this time please? What happens to all the lost e-mails I wonder.

You are tying together a lot of loose ends. "I love it when a plan comes together!"
More! More!
I love the rose and it would be so fun to find one of your coffee heads somewhere. Don't you just love leaving found art? Just once I would like to find someone else's.

Lovely rose painting-I can't wait for summer to be here.

I really really really like what goes on in your sketch book. I wish I could borrow it for a day and just thumb through all your pages up close.

The caffeine quote is terrific, I couldn't have said it better myself.
Gorgeous rose!! And I would have to agree with the caffeine quote, it is most definitely a vitamin I can't live without!

:)

I liked the Rose painting. Some parts of the leaves seem to be a bit too contrasted and suffused with white (maybe that was the actual effect of light on the underside of the leaf)... Good one though..

Hi sunil, the white isn't actually light but the actual colour of the underleaf, sort of a velvety light grey green, and then add the light. Does make it unusual though, maybe that is why I was attracted to painting it.
Thanks cynthia, janet, paula :)

love the greens around the rose, a gorgeous picture. I used to want to paint, even bought paints once, then got busy with other things, someday....maybe I will get back to it, but I bet I will need new paints...haha

I'm impressed by your rose painting. I always find it difficult to capture the fragility of the petals, but you've done it really well. Think I'll stick to solid old buildings.
