It offends thee?


A week or so ago a person using the men's bathroom told a member of the Chamber of Commerce they felt Ken's painting in the Chamberpot Gallery could be viewed as blasphemous. A few days later the painting was ripped off the wall, damaged and tossed in the trash. It is too much of a coincidence to believe that it was anything other than a deliberate act. It is always sad that any artist's work is damaged, but even more so if some self-appointed arbiter of morality attempted to regulate what others think and believe, see and depict. To vandalize a persons work because one does not agree with it not only goes against the very foundation of democracy and the constitution of this country, but is a criminal act against the artist and the free society in which we live.

 In regards to the radio show. My nightmare about doing it lasted longer than the actual interview LOL! I think it went well, but will never know since it isn't a local radio show and I will never hear it. I think we were on 5 minutes and I sqeezed in "hello, loo with a view, got paper, thankyou goodbye" :)

What purpose and right does a person has to vandalize? What a shame.

Kind of like PETA. Intentions are good, but the actions doesnt justify.

People are funny buggers, especially those who fein lofty sensibilities, and claim to take offense at the slightest thing.

As my mum would say "Bring back National service. Let 'em know what it really feels like to work your bum off, and suffer".

Hi Jafabrit, just me Mark from Big Scary Unknown popping in to say thanks for the comment on my blog.

Just to let you know it is bloody hot over here in the U.K. stupidly so if you ask me. Last night was cool though as we had a huge electrical storm with tons of lightning illuminating the nights sky. Still didn't make it any cooler unfortunately.

By the way mindless vandalism such as this really makes me wonder about the state of the society we live in today that an individual can't express themselves without fear of reprisal. I'm all for debate over contentious issues but violence (which is what this really is) solves nothing.

As a Pastor I think what the vandal did was horrible. The artist put time effort and though into the work, to destroy it is evil. I found the picture itself to be bad theology but certainly not anti-Christian .

Actually I am surpised anyone noticed it because it seems most men have walked in and out unaware there is any art in there LOL!

Acts like these only add to the work's exposure. Ignoring it it would have passed like two ships in the sea at night. So instead of quelching the message, he only served to spread it. Dumb.

Well, I have heard artists say they have "made it" cause they were stolen. Maybe being vandalized moves one up too.

The act of vandalism is highly offensive. Regardless of how one feels about a painting, book, free speech etc., it is the corner stone of democracy as you put it. This act just points out the vandals own intolerance. This world would be too boring if we all believed in the same things!

So this vandal took offense at this lovely painting, but being the 'upstanding and moral' person they are, they vandalize someone elses property which they had NO right to do! Grrrr! What a jerk! :(

The sad thing is the person or persons that did this is feeling that a good work was done. I hope they catch who did this and they can be reached with the message of free speech

Jan, yes you are right because this painting is now going to be plastered all over the town in the form of found art. Several artists have volunteered to do this.
Betty, I doubt if the person will get caught, but I hope he enjoys seeing the found art around town ;)
