The Apology

One day many moons ago my daughter asked me what I thought of her drawing and I said it was decorative (meant as a compliment). Insulted she replied that my sculpture looked like a martha stewart project. Insulted I demanded she apologise. She would not. HA, I would get my artistic revenge, so I made a soft sculpture of her tongue. I stole one of her tongue rings and stuck it through the canvas tongue, and attached a handstitched canvas crow to it. It proudly hangs in our living room and continues to amuse us.
For those who haven't heard of the saying "to eat crow" it means you have to admit you were wrong about something.

That is too funny! (The story that is) Wow, is the tongue made of canvas and then painted? Or is it some type of resin? I'm beginning to think that you have a fascination of sorts with tongues???

I like art work that becomes 3d! Very cool.

It is canvas that I stitched together and stuffed with fiber stuffing. I then stiched it to the flat canvas and then painted it.

what me,obessessed with tongues and mouth's, nawwwww!!!!! lol!

That would have to be a big conversation starter! I know it would catch my attention... LOL.

I'd never thought much about the phrase "eat crow." So many stange things we say and haven't any idea how they came about.

I'm embarassed to say the origin of "big brother is watching" was unknown to me until I recently read 1984. Such a common thing to hear/say and many folks associate it with our government & conspiracy theories - but rarely is the Orwell connection mentioned.

Boy - I'm in a talkative mood!

I didn't realize where that saying came from either. Wow that is really a cool job on the tongue/crow 3-d wall art! I'll have to show it to my daughter, she will think it's extremely cool! She has her tongue pierced too.

Oh Jan, my daughter of course LOL! Seriously though, we were just goofing around at the time and we make a joke of it still. I now refer to my sculpture as the martha stewart project and we all laugh. Maybe I will post a pic of it :)

LOL the martha stewart project!
My daughter's on her way to her pre-teen and we've had a few battles. I'd love to tell her,"eat crow". Your pic is something more memorable and I'm sure you got your point across!

did she eat crow. No, LOL!

We were not having a serious fight, but rather a minor squabble that got funnier as we squabbled because we exaggerated our umbrage.
I told her HAH, if you don't apologize I will get my artistic revenge.

ah, those preteens christine-arg!!!!!!!!!

Something to look forward to! My daughter is 8 and already I see the makings of the battles to come. I'm glad you have a memento of the squabble.

I think that picture is awesome. You do such interesting art. I wish I could see it all.

My great aunt is always saying Eat Crow so that is not a foreign phrase to me, I just like how you interepreted it

Geeze, JB, I don't know if I'm more afraid for the crow or the mouth in your artwork! Fabulous, but terrifying, all around!

Maybe not as terrifying as Martha Stewart, though!

Thanks for the backstory on "eat crow", too. I have an "Encyclopedia of Cliches and Common Sayings" around here, somewhere. I love those!

A hanging reminder how great.
I know the expression eat crow but where it may have come from is interesting.

I've never heard the saying Eat Crow but now that I have, I'll always think of this, and my now-non-existant tongue peircing will ache at the thoughts of crows trying to fly away with my peircings

Very cool piece, Jafabrit! I love the way the face is "trapped" in the frame and yet leaps out into the viewer's face!

Did your daughter every apologize, lol...?
