A message from Fine Art America

You would think people sharing your work is a good thing, but pinterest is like a Whispers game and by the time your image has passed around the information of what, where and who is lost. People think they can download and use your images on their fb walls, etc, and from there others share and before you know it, boom! your images are on record labels, on company websites, etc.

Even with attribution, pinners may be giving away the artists/designers rights to that pinned image
"Subject to any applicable account settings you select, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable, worldwide license to use, display, reproduce, re-pin, modify (e.g., re-format), re-arrange, and distribute your User Content on Pinterest"
quote from Attorney at Law Francine D. Ward

STATEMENT
I don't believe Pinners are evil people with malicious intent, and it is lovely they enjoy an artist or designers work and want to share and enjoy. I also don't want my dear friends who enjoy Pinterest to be defensive, just be aware of how it's set up..
Unfortunately artists are being stripped of their distribution rights and many are getting burned and cheated by those who exploit the pinned images to use for their scam websites,  redirect image search traffic to porn sites (yes one of my spin art paintings is being used for this purpose), use it for marketing a product, or make copies and sell to stores.
