What! You don't like my work!!!!

Hey, that's okay. You know why it's okay?
Because I don't give a monkey's behind?
You want to know why I don't give a monkey's behind?
Because if I did I would never do any artwork

As Eleanor Roosevelt Said

"Do what you feel in your heart to be right, for you'll be criticized anyway.
You'll be damned if you do and damned if you don't".

Yep, my work is definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but it makes ME happy.
Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder
and thank goodness for that because it sure would be a boring world if we all liked the SAME thing

Well said. I always consider it the highest compliment when other artists like my work but I'd also consider it a compliment if the couple across the street who don't recycle (unless you count empty beer bottles on my lawn), scream at each other like fishwives and have Pierrot on their walls hated it. :) Personally, I think your work rocks.

Jafabrit art girl !!!

YI

are you living in the USA now....do they find your accent amusing ...hopefully that is a lot of fun.
I hope you can help me........
My predicament is this. I cannot find the blurb I put in a Word doc about this "Your Documents Please" exhibition and I am supposed to be sending a work to them, I am also concerned that I might be too late now !!

Yours looks really good !

Please send me the address and details if you can lay your hands on them. aine@no35.demon.co.uk

thanks in hope

Aine
Your attitude is catching. Refreshing - I think I may be catching the jafa virus. I doubt that there is an antidote - you know how our drug industry works. Go girl!

What a treat indeed to pop back in this being a student is cutting into my keeping in touch with me blog friends and getting a laugh, a stimulating thought and lots of bits and bobs!

What is it with waking up and seeing your face changed over night? ahh ya yaaaa!

that travelling exhibition is so exciting Wow! hopefully my papers give my teachers a stir!

That's an interesting post, and I can't help wondering what prompted it. You're right of course, there are many different styles of art and not everything is everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I love your art.

I still haven't quite worked out what it is that draws me to some art and not others though... I seem to like 3D, texture, emotion, or something thought provoking. Water colours of local scenery have none of those things - although I can't deny the skill involved, it's just not my thing.
Funny! Really, what would we do if other's opinions were THAT important? Probably a lot less than we do!

Thank you, nice post, very informative. Regards.

That's Right!!! If you don't like it then lump it.
Great post and I love the monkey! Have a good one!
that is exactly what it's all about!

andrea, you are so spot on. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw beer bottles LOL!

Hope you got the info ainesse :)

Bill, if the jafa is a virus I am want to keep it LOL!

colette, I was happily surprised when I saw the venue for the traveling exhibit. I am really quite excited about it. I hope people stamp or write in my document :)

thanks for the tip off american genius.

Undaunted, nothing in particular prompted my post except I like to remind myself now and again of the importance of being true to self artistically, and not let myself be swayed by the opinions of others.

mary, when I think back of all the things people said I shouldn't or should, arg!!!!!! Well I wouldn't be here married and doing what I am a doing. I loathe people telling me what I should do, most especially when it comes to my art.

thanks for dropping in jeff, judith :)

oh yes, isn't that a great pic of the monkey hmbt lol! just how I feel sometimes.

Art is a very personal thing, like writing. So if people are critical it can really hurt but I think you've taken the right attitude...(Though I'm truly shocked you didn't use a piccy of the Monkey's arse! Maybe next time...)

LOL Jane I couldn't find a really good pic of a monkey bum :)

I used to work at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Art is a form of expression it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks it matters what you think and feel when you are creating. Working at the museum there are a lot of things that are well... er unusual that have nothing to do with Renoir or Monet. I once saw an exhibit on modern contemporary art that freaked me out. I don't know why or how some guy made a painting with his umm... male secretions ceiling to floor must have been bored that day no one to play with. Off subject your art is great don't let anyone tell you different.

The funny thing is Jane, I don't get hurt, I get irritated. I have absolutely NO problem with people NOT liking my work because to be frank some of it is NOT pretty. It very rarely happens to me, but when someone goes out of their way to tell me they don't like something just to let me know that I have to wonder what the motive is. Now if they want to talk about it, and tell me why, fine, but otherwise, why bother telling me? Why would they think I give a monkey's arse that they don't like something. I really don't care.

YIKES proofpostivity lol! exertions floor to ceiling eh! okey dokey, I say nooooooothing!

thanks for dropping in and the support. Must have been so interesting working at the museum?

No picture of a monkey's arse; never mind... I'm sure you can find a picture of George Bush bending over!
In fact I understand that he is of the same species. (Trying googling Bush Monkey!)

There are just some people in life who are just plain mean-spirited and that sort of destructive behaviour says more about them then it can about you and your art.

Next time you have an exhibition I suggest you carry a red hot poker around with you and say you're looking for models....

Ahhh, nice shot of steadfastness in the morning!!
Yea. I don't care what people think about my work either.

Loved working at the museum. I want to drool just thinking about it. I miss Pablo, Georgia, and Warhol. Too bad I live in the land of toothless hillbillies now.

Your art is wrought with genius, JafaBrit. Not everyone's comfortable with genius. Lady Eleanor spoke the truth.

And I've subscribed to your blog, too. Yay :)

Looks like somebody really got to you. But never mind, your responses are perfect.

no lol, nobody got to me mr. zip, it's just a general observation and one I think so many can relate to. my hope is that it inspires others to have courage to be true to themselves.

Hey thanks for dropping in Ren. You will find that some of my work is nice, some of it is not. Hope you enjoy visiting more often.

Those who can do...those who can't criticize. I'm with you...love me or leave me but don't be an arse about it.

Love this post. Love your attitude. Love your blog! You are so right about this. You have to just not care what others think. I'm a pretty sensitive soul though and I do forget. Thanks for posting this. I'm going to bookmark it and bring it out when I am feeling down about my art.

Art has to be felt...deep down...heart and soul. Yours does...and if someone does not get it? That is their loss. I think you are, as always, amazing.

Hugs,
Sue
