Craft Activism with the Jafagirls

Watch now: The Art Show | Season 6, Episode 2 | ThinkTVNetwork Video

The Jafagirls of Yellow Springs use craft activism to raise awareness of social issues. We visit the Cohen Film Collection in Columbus, where modern technology is being used restore and preserve rare movie classics. The 442s in St. Louis fuse classical music and jazz. Watch online: Season 6, Episode 2 from The Art Show.

I was pretty nervous about doing this, and even more so watching it. They did a grand job with the editing and can't say enough kind things about the producer, Ann Rotolante, and the film crew. Doing it was such a great experience.

PussyHat Project and Ipad Drawing Protest Sign

I've been busy knitting hats, making street art(viva la vulve), drawing, and working on the Yellow Springs Arts Council event at Antioch University Midwest. It's been one BUSY week.  The PussyHat project inspired me to do an ipad drawing called "sisterhood"  that several local marchers asked if they could use for a poster. I was honored and happy to say YES. So while I was unable to go to the Women's March I am glad I was able to contribute hats and art.

I wonder what Britain's First Feminist, Mary Wollstonecraft, would have thought of this. I just imagine her joining in

How Drawing Changes Lives and What is Visual Literacy

I draw everyday, either in my sketchbook, in a drawing pad or on my ipad. I can't imagine a day going by that I wouldn't do that. This one below was inspired by a news story about domestic violence.

Christmas in Arizona and the Phoenix Zoo Lights

ZooLights

Come see why we were voted one of the Best Zoo Lights by USA Today's 10Best Reader's Choice travel award! Polar Slide- 200 Feet of Snow Tubing Excitement!* Will be open daily through January 16 and at ZooLights through January 8, 2017. Hours: Daytime 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
It was a short visit to Arizona BUT oodles of fun, putting aside that I kept breaking stuff - have no clue what that was about. Probably will become part of family legend when Nana managed to break something every day. Since this is an art blog I will leave out the details and just share some photos from the neighbourhood Christmas Lights and then the Pheonix Zoo Lights. We had quite a hike from the parking lot to the Zoo because the zoo parking was full. Thankfully it was a fairly pleasant evening and well lit, which made seeing the Saguaro
fun to see at night. We were greeted at the entrance with trees covered in lights.
I really enjoyed the fabulous 1 million LEGO nature displays. It was hard to get a good shot of any because of crowds, so here is a link to a video and slide show. The highlight of the evening was the lakeside Music-in-Motion light display.
Here is a great video of all the lights.
