Boo Time in the VIllage

It's always fun walking around the village and seeing all the Halloween decorations and carved pumpkins. Tomorrow night we shall see the joy of little faces as we hand out the sweets and ooh and aah at their costumes.

Back in my day in the UK we didn't have pumpkins to carve but used turnips, nor did we do trick or treat. OF course all that has changed now and UK has imported the Americanized version.

The Very First Jack-O'-Lanterns Are WAY More Terrifying Than What We Have Today

There's nothing quite like visiting a pumpkin patch, finding the perfect pumpkin, then settling in to carve your creation on a cool, fall night. Sure, the "pumpkin guts" are gross and make my arms itch, but the end result is always worth it.

Letting Go of Your Art Projects

yellow springs, ohio corry street shops and public art
As I plan to move out of state there are projects that were dear to my heart that I have had to let go and one of the them was the jafagirls "peeps in the park" which has now been handed over to the Village Artisans. It will be exciting to see how it changes under new leadership though.

Letting Go seems to be my theme this year as I sort through my house, letting go of things, the clutter of mementos, of memories and dreams once held dear, and those things that were not meant to be. It can be very unsettling and yet very liberating.

Thus Sang the Jolly Autumn

Photography in Yellow Springs Ohio
To Autumn by William Blake
O Autumn, laden with fruit, and stain'd
With the blood of the grape, pass not, but sit
Beneath my shady roof; there thou may'st rest,
And tune thy jolly voice to my fresh pipe,
And all the daughters of the year shall dance!
Sing now the lusty song of fruits and flowers.

'The narrow bud opens her beauties to
The sun, and love runs in her thrilling veins;
Blossoms hang round the brows of Morning, and
Flourish down the bright cheek of modest Eve,
Till clust'ring Summer breaks forth into singing,
And feather'd clouds strew flowers round her head.

'The spirits of the air live in the smells
Of fruit; and Joy, with pinions light, roves round
The gardens, or sits singing in the trees.'
Thus sang the jolly Autumn as he sat,
Then rose, girded himself, and o'er the bleak
Hills fled from our sight; but left his golden load

The Carrier of Hate Bones

There is a poison that has seeped into the bones of this country and set root and the media feeds into it, the politicians exploit it, and Facebook the perfect carrier for this contagion of anger, fear, hate, and despair.
