Yarnbombing before there was Yarnbombing

Saw this crochet covered Beer Bottle circa 1995 by Bill Davenport at the San Antonio Museum of Art. Of course it wasn't called yarnbombing back then ;) Bill calls them yarnworks and you can see some examples on his website. I had fun visiting his site, what an interesting artist, AND he was doing a giant yarnball before it became popular with yarnbombers around the world.
Meanwhile how cool that one of our jafagirl yarnbombs in Yellow Springs made it on the list of 51 yarnbombs at Web Urbanist.

art can be disappointing but junk always exceeds your expectations - what a riot, thanks for the link to his site :)

Great find on Bill Davenport! I definitely need to go learn more about his art now.

There were lots of cool crochet / mixed media works done in the 1970s too that were similar to yarnbombing but of course also not called that at the time. Fun to look back at!

love junk :) Yep, nothing is really new, just renamed or maybe with a different twist.
