Sketchbook: I hate clowns

They're so Creepy

which begs the question why draw one in my sketchbook lol! Have NO idea! I just doodle whatever comes to mind. The art muse is in charge and I'm at it's mercy. I painted the page with acrylic and then sprayed over a bit of a stencil.  Then stitched in a piece of embroidered linen showing an example cretan stitch.

 I had fun with this
Yellow Springs can boast of 2 clowns mowing, seriously they are a landscaping service and they are dressed as clowns. You know they're around when you see the truck with the painted cows on top of it.

Interviews

The jafagirls (Nancy and Moi) were interviewed on one of my FAVOURITE sites, World Graffiti and Urban Art
Thank You

OMG - you too? I hate clowns with a vengance. I never knew why as a kid I hated clown so much until I saw that Steven King moview..IT! Arrrgghhh...creepy, diabolical, not very funny, clowns.

I felt the same way Debrina, even as a child I felt their face was a mask that hid pain or something. I never thought they were funny.

Clowns are not really supposed to be funny. In ancient societies they were sacred tricksters and they were not funny. So fearing them is an archetypal response. Why parents put clowns in kid's rooms baffles me.

It also makes sense when you think of the John Wayne Gacy killings and his later paintings...obesessed with clowns and serial killing? Coincidence?
we have a link, me to I saw that the local circus has come to town and the poster shows the Steven king clown (IT? I think)image of a clown. why oh why would any child or adult want to go anywhere near such a scary face;-)

I can't say I was ever scared of clowns, I just didn't think them funny and part of that was seeing beyond the mask. It's like seeing costumed characters and knowing there is a human under the costume who is working minimum wage, and is sweating and uncomfortable. I was just never deluded by the mask.

I agree clowns are very creepy. Especially when 50 get out of one tiny car... ;)

Hi, Corinne.
Not clowns, but this might interest you. Inger does some lovely needlework in some of her pieces.

It wasnt until Kramer on Seinfeld said he was afraid of clowns that I ever even thought that clowns, in general, were considered creepy by some people. Watched Emmett Kelly and Bozo the clown on tv as a kid. Never thought they were creepy, but always wondered why Emmett Kelly was sad.

Jan, I don't ever remember a clown kid show on telly growing up, maybe that would have made a difference.

Thanks for the link idelthoughts, I enjoyed looking at the work.

Silly thing though Allison I love that cult classic Killer Klowns from outer space lol!
haha, clowns are the pits. one of my students wants to do a drawing of a little girl with scary clowns behind her (her project is about irrational fears and how we cannot fight the intangible) but I said I don't want to see it when it is done! EEEK!
