Old San Juan Cemetery

Cemeterio Maria Magadelena De PazzisOld San Juan, Puerto Rico
December 2009

Can one say a cemetery is beautiful? This one was with it's white marble everywhere, gravestones, statues etc. This statue was my favourite and while the figure is in contemplation, one couldn't help contemplate also while looking at it. There was a certain poignancy that came with hearing the gentle waves and seeing quiet beauty of the place.

i love cemeteries! and the statues. i am so jealous you go to see this in person. this is gorgeous, she almost looks wistful, like she's thinking of someone. slight smile on here face....i'm telling you, the people who make cemetery sculptures were so talented and so unsung as artists! and they really shouldn't be.
why don't we ever know THEIR names? i've wondered this for awhile. was it a taboo or something?

shana, I hadn't thought of that, I guess I took it for granted, but then I haven't really seen as much statues as this. Good question though, now I will have to google it.

The statue is so beautiful. It does look like she is experiencing good thoughts as she sits there.
