The Art of Propaganda

"it becomes fact"
oil on wood

Found an interesting post at Palm Beach Coast.com about selling the politics of hate and an exhibit called Political Circus by Jane Caputi : " The Sideshow: Hating Hillary, Baiting Barak & mocking McCain.

To see the video showcasing the tshirts and buttons stereotyping the candidates just
click on this link.

"“These artifacts indicate the resentment of some quarters of American society against any sharing of power with non-traditional groups, as well as a retrenchment and continuing reinvention of malicious stereotypes based on sex, race, religion, age, sexual preference and gender,” said Caputi. “It is essential to participate in and extend a public airing and discussion of these trends.”

"Curious George publisher may sue over T-shirt" depicting Obama as a monkey"
"Norman, who began selling the shirts late last month, has said they are not meant to be racist. He said he thinks the Illinois senator and the character "look so much alike."

Just found you blog list hopping, and am so glad I did. You highlight such important issues, with amazing and dynamic images. This piece says it all, with brittle, bone jarring, clarity.

Thanks for being a creative and sane voice,
Karin

Thanks for dropping by karin and your comments. My blog is a whole mix of issues represented in my art. This week the propaganda and lies just got too much for me.

yeah, it's gotten to me too. It's all I can do to keep my own head clear and keep working at all. I love your work, it's beauty-full and serene, even if the subject of the work is some what tortured and twisting. I love that you can do that, that you can paint something that is haunting and wonderful at the same time. When I am in this state of mind, my work reflects it like muddy dull water.

Crude, comical, hateful, intelligent, stereotypical & disturbing images...
A tribute to the power of art & the image. Not sure what it says about our society though. Freedom of thought & expression apply to the cruel & hateful too. Certainly this is nothing new...politicians have been demonizing their opponents for centuries. The difference today is the power of the media. Thanks Corrinne for this post.

These are the best of times these are the worst of times...and where will the stopping point be?

And just why the heck does the whole world revolve around the almighty buck?

but yes paints cost money but then so does keeping the house warm and the body fed.

I think I might need a stiff one.

I really can't comment on these ones - I don't understand politics at all. But the art is great! :)

madsilence it always amazes me when people dismiss art as not being important or of value, but these are the negative examples of its power.

Thanks undaunted :)

Well colette, I will join you in a stiff one, but have you seen how much they cost lately LOL! Can't win eh!
