"bee pole"
Textile Totems by the Jafagirls

I think this has to be my favourite pole we've done so far. I like this shot because you can see the other poles and get an idea of the location. And guess what, nobody can complain we are killing a tree (we had several people who were convinced putting knitting on the tree would kill it). It's a strange fad isn't it, but it's fun, it's creative, and it seems to give people a real chuckle.

Flickr has a Urban Knitting Group with photos of knit graffiti around the world. I liked the Knitting Hooligans (what a great name) wristband they put on a Chinese Lion. and how about those red mittens on Lenin :)

I love it! What a great idea about putting the knitting on a pole. I just might have to do this myself.

I just recently saw on Etsy a knitted coffee cup. Not something knitted around a coffee cup--but rather a coffee cup that is knitted! I think I added it to my favorites if you want to check it out. The first thing I thought when I saw it is how fun would it be to take that knitted coffee shop to one of those breakfast restaurants that leave the coffee cups on the table...and when you're leaving--switch it!

I totally dig the pole...and get a kick that stupid people think that the yarn will kill the pole---the pole died long time ago when they chopped the tree!! Duuhh!

Peace & Love.

This reminds me of the "shoe trees" people would make in Canada, but in your case you're not damaging the poles, anyway! Not to mention that it's much more attractive than a bunch of old shoes nailed to a tree.

hi everyone thanks for dropping in and hanging around the bee pole :)

The teacup idea sounds fabulous, that would be so funny. I imagine it requires either a pattern or major knitting skills and I don't have the ability for either.

Yep. people seem to complain about all sorts, the knitting will hurt the tree, it is strange and you shouldn't do it. For the most part though people in town are being good sports about it and people are constantly coming up to Nancy and I and telling us how they like them.
