The oddest thing happened when using an old photo for a drawing exercise, not because twisting and distorting a face in itself is odd, but that I should end up doing that. I hate getting photographed and as a child I always made a face, especially if my father was taking the photo. I won't delve into the why's, suffice it to say he besmirched my childhood. I had one of those rare photos where I wasn't making a face (he caught me off guard), but I guess subconsciously I was wanting to make a face at him because it just got all twisted.

Awesome. Can we see a detail on the actual photo?
oh, only if you click on the image, but it isn't very clear. I would have to hunt the photo down and offhand I am not even sure which box or album it is in now.
I love the hearts! A real pick me upper in this cold dark time.
Your faces are awesome, they intrigue me. I wonder if the personality they convey is the personality of the person?
i loooove those hearts of yours.
And thankyou for adding me to your links, i will gladly reciprocate.

I love looking inside your sketchbook!! :D
that is so funny- i have always been the "face maker" at picture time in our family -too- to the point even as an adult, the other adults get mad at me!-
i am teaching my 4year old grandson the art of goofy face making for pictures-one has to have traditions for future generations-
i love the drawing- makes me wanna do some of p-dub-my grandson
thanks again for delights inspirations
ah, childhood. I have no good pictures either, tho from what I can see, yours looks fine.
Love the heart banner.
A small glimpse inside of Jafabrit. I always hated photo time too and I haven't done a self-portrait since college.
I love your new banner.

the hearts make a great header Corrine...
I like the underlying tension with the distortion...
your nameless man has a winning format...
are we looking in at him or is looking out at us....
I like your blog makeover! It's like sunshine and puppies, until I read your post...the cryptic darker side of Jafabrit still exists. I mean that in a good way.
I really like how you take an image and really push it just a bit. I could really use some lessons from you.
Love the new banner! I have wanted to say something about that making faces thing...but it struck a little close to my own home, so I'll just say I know what you mean jelly bean. Can't wait to see what you do next.
The lopsidedness is most appealing to me. You and that little girl of the past were talking to each other!
Very interesting sketch. You know, I bet my publisher would love a book like this...sketches and the process.
Just a thought...
The banner RAWKS!

I loved the peek into your sketchbook. Great insight about faces, too. I do understand about the photos and the relationship to your work now. I will be eager to see if you take this further.
I love the header on your blog. The colors and the shape of it is very cool.
