Creative Motivations

Can you believe I actually think I've run out of things to say, which is ironic considering the failed painter just gave me this very cool award. LOL!! Thankyou Noonan :)

Okay, I have this to say. The holidays are upon us and I can't get my teeth into any serious studio work, which is not to say I haven't spent time plotting. Still I have felt a wee bit guilty about it and then I reread an article about Yoko Ono in which she is quoted:
"I work whenever and wherever I'm inspired". So I am reminded that it will happen when it happens.
Meanwhile I thought I would share what led to my Edith Sitwell painting titled "electric eel" - after a quote of hers-"I am an unpopular electric eel in a pool of catfish.". It all started when I saw a photograph of her by Loomis Dean in an old Life Magazine. Her haughty look and hands just intrigued me. I had a stone that seemed perfect to paint her face on. I wanted to use the form of the stone and illusion to define her features on the stone.

I just got this typical British Christmas Card from relatives in England. There is my favourite little bird the British Robin Redbreast and the iconic pillar post box.

My thoughts too wolf lol! She was an incredibly interesting woman and poet of note (in her day).

ooh that is a new title for me casey :) Thanks colette, so now I have an excuse when there is a full moon for howling at it.

That is the right word margot, holidaze. We got the final pressies today, in between my back and legs spazzing out.

hey, thanks thorngren. My mum says it is the same up north in England and hard to get motivated.

I am doing fine thanks lone beader, coz I have both my kids home for the holidays.

congrats on award
our resident robin has returned to the copper beeches in the front garden - fed him some meal worms yesterday; he loved them. on the robin theme - nonstickplans has a different way of looking at them!
I too, like you can't wait for the holidays to start, apart from family things I hope to spend a lot of time in the studio, lots of work needs starting/completing.
thanks for popping over on a regular basis, nice to have visitors! (will not post artists names at your request!!)lol

Thanks philip, same to you and your family :)

Paul can you get a pic of the robin :) I would love to see it. ha! ha! I like nonstickplans version of the robin. I don't think we get the american robins here in winter, but I do enjoy seeing the red cardinal (another beautiful bird). Snowing like crazy here now.

Jafabrit,

I just read your comment over at Sunil's Simplistic Art blog and wanted to say hello. I too live in Ohio and I wish I could see all those great art shows Sunil sees in New York. Some day..

Yoko Ono was a great innovator - I think the history of conceptual art can be traced right back to her. She was before her time and has been underestimated - perhaps because she is a woman and is Japanese. The UK was not ready for her in the 1960s.

I never quite understood the vehemence and hatred towards yoko when I was younger Philip. But yes, she was definitely before her time. I really like her second song "revelations".

Ooh that synchronicity thang is happening again...spooky. My opening quote for one the artists talks I'm preparing is one by Yoko...who is a favourite artist of Nic. We both love her 'cut piece' despite waht all her naughty critics say. long live Fluxus!

I am totally with you on the un-motivated thing, I have so much Christmas stuff to finish, plus the commission that had to be done before it's too late to ship it....arrrrhhhggg! Love the crazy rock painting...we will all get our mo-jo back when the spirit(s) of Christmas let us go (here in the states anyway) rampent consumerisim usually takes all my feel good and paint energy away anyway! Love to you and yours...you wordsmith you. I wish my oldest could have made it this year for the holiday....*snif*

rampant consumerism isn't much dif in England bad kitty. I had fun doing those rock faces :)

Loretta, that is just too weird, especially considering we haven't talked about Yoko Ono. I think it must have taken much courage to do the cut piece, especially in Japan. The more I learn about her the more I realize what an amazing woman she is.
