Absinthe and Licorice

Howard thinks I have been sniffing too much paint and looking at this painting he may be just right, yep been sniffing too much of that thalo blue, LOL! Kidding aside painters do need to be cautious in the studio when handling paints-health and safety in the arts website. Having a filter in my studio has made a HUGE difference to air quality.

On the other hand being an artist and prone to accidentally living up to the stereotypical artist image, I could imbibe in that naughty drink, absinthe. IT"S BACK!!!! minus the lethal wormwood component. As you can see in my weird facts about me list I LOVE licorice ( only Australian or the brit pontefract cakes- YUM puts hairs on yer chest). So absinthe is my kind of drink, but I can't imagine slugging the stuff down to the point of getting to the state that everyone gets their moral knickers in a twist. I have enough lucid moments without the need for absinthe :)

Tagged: Miki Nitadori tagged me, ARG! Seven weird facts about moi but I can only think of 5 at the moment. I am supposed to tag others but I don't want ti impose, so I will let others choose to play if they want.

1. I love winkles, but find escargot rather gross (don't ask me why but somehow a slithering along the ground creature is more gross to me than a slithery sea creature, lol-go figure)
2. I keep dreaming of Sean Connery, I once spent several hours just fondling his blasted knee.
3. I seem to be genetically programmed to playfully, and with a twinkle in me eye, take the mickey out anyone who take themselves too seriously and cop a
hoity toity attitude around me (whether it be social, economic, art or whatever). Don't ask me why!
4. I have a soft spot for kitsch (as evidenced by my love of cheapo piggy cell phone holder in photo below)
5. I once went to the docs with a numb tingling around my mouth. He couldn't find anything wrong. As I was leaving his office I felt compelled to mention (don't ask me why) that I had been eating a lot of licorice lately. He asked, "what is a lot of licorice?" I told him. I could still hear him laughing his head off as I was walking out the front door. I was not charged that day. My prescription was NOT to each THAT much licorice. Eating highly concentrated licorice candy can produce hypertension, amongst other symptoms.

Have you ever tried Double Zoute - the salted dutch licorice. I once attended a private school which had a large contingency of Dutch students: they all had this addiction to Double Zoute (double salt). I ate so much licorice during that year that I can't bear to even look at it.
In Australia as kids we had a black lolly called a choo choo bar. It was made of licorice or aniseed and was very addictive - it even had a picture of a train on the wrapper.

Did you fondle Sean Connery's knee in person or in your dream? ;-D
I can't find the Aussie licorice around here anymore but Panda licorice from the health food store is yummy.

I like licorice too, but not nearly so much as I love the portrait painting!
And are you the one responsible for the outlandishly gorgeous border on the Jafagirls site?
Beautiful,,,so antiquated, raw and rustic,,ARTISTIC!
(did I say I like it?)

Love the painting! The colors give so much meaning to the quirky-ness...love it!
I don't do licorice, but the absinthe I make myself (with the wormwood). It tastes like the ass end of a yak but of course...it get's things going pretty quick...and then can we talk about colors?! Whoo hoo!

I love licorice myself! Have you ever smelled the foilage on the Agastache plant?

I planted it specifically in my yard this past summer for it's highly aromatic licorice scented leaves. I am fond of occasionally walking over to it just to rub my hand over the leaves to release the scent.

I also like Ouzo and the like - not quite absinthe, but same lovely flavor.

Hmm, Shawn Connery's knee, you say?

Choo choo bars also made your tongue go blue, so mum always knew. isn't liquorice suppose to be an aphrodisiac?

thanks kim :)

I have heard that about licorice loretta, but I can't say its very good lol! My days as a sexy vixen have been rather curtailed by that dull men-o-pause thing ;)

I don't know if you agree but I think the hardest thing to do in figurative art is to get the eyes and the lips right. The human face is a window into a person's soul and I think that capturing this makes all the difference to a figurative work. A skill that you have fully mastered. There is much more to figurative art than just getting a good likeness - the best artists go beyond that.

Thankyou philip, I just love doing the eyes. I was always taught that when drawing a face you should never start with the eyes. well guess what lol! I always seem to start with the eyes.

Now the nose, that is a tough one for me. I never seem to run out of time to practice doing the face though. I would like to work a bit on hands though.

When I have done figurative work I always start with the eyes.

Hello Corrine!

This portrait is stunning. The info about the pigments is very helpful and I am never careful with these things. I know I should be.

Have a great weekend!
