Practice drawings of my hands and my legs (when they were skinnier)A local artist stated he doesn't bother with blogs because all they talk about are themselves, with no offense meant towards me. I didn't take offense, but it does seem to be an attitude many people have. When another local artist actually got around to visiting the arts council blog I run she was really surprised at how informative and visually pleasing it was.
So do I talk about myself all the time? Hum well yes, of course LOL! after all a blog like mine it is all about me the ARTIST and my ART. I mean if I start talking about my bowel movements maybe they would have a point, unless of course I start using poop in my art (NOT!!!!)

Virtually every blog I read regularly is about the person who writes it. They are people I know (some I've gotten to know online) and/or admire and I find their lives and thoughts interesting and often mighty entertaining.
Blogs that bore me are ones on politics or an issue (although I don't mind the bloggers I read discussing politics or issues sometimes -- it's just the steady diet I can't stand); the blogs devoted to making money through blogging; blogs which have a link virtually every sentence; religion blogs; poetry blogs; celebrity gossip blogs; amateur book, movie, album and restaurant reviewer blogs; and art blogs that just have an image and maybe the medium, size and price but have nothing else about it or the artist. I do check out all of those types of blog once in a while (except the celebrity gossip ones which I find utter garbage and despise), but I'm not a regular reader of any of them. (and that was most likely a whole lot more info than you really wanted to know... :-D )
So count yourself as interesting (and entertaining)! :-)
I find your blog so interesting and informative, I wouldn't mind reading about bowel movements..not on a regular basis though.
yes the word blog is guaranteed to raise eyebrows amongst my peers. they are unsure, highly suspicious and disdainfull about the point of it all.
Of course blogs will eventually become a mainstream activity a 'blogue', at which point, we avant blogueists will have to find a new way to communicate about the most important person in our lives.
who says artists are self centred...poppycock!
Do poppies have cocks?
It is hard to know the difference between if you are writing about your self or you are writing about your works.
But who will write about our work if we don't first write it ourselves?
This difference is like drawing portrait or face.
Portrait is drawing a particular person and drawing a face is rather about attitude and not about describing a person via drawing,
I work mainly with myself, people say it's self portrait but i don't think it is only about me .
I think we are only a reflection of one another.
Please continue to share your ideas!
I think eek it is all really a matter of personal taste, just like a choice in literature and music. So it seems silly for someone to dismiss a whole genre (in this case blogging) because some of it bores them. My list of what bores me is similar to yours, although there are rare gems even when the blog is about subjects I have no interest in. thanks eek :)
LOL, me thinks thorngren I will stay away from bowel movements :)
loretta, isn't it odd. YOu would think other artists would be open to the artistic potential of another media (the internet)!!!!! ha!ha! avant blogueists! I like that. You have a great way with words. I am going to be churning that around my head for hours now.
"Do poppies have cocks?" Hum I had to check it out of course. Wrong side, they have bums. LOL! I looked it up my fave book, dictionary of slang. It originates from the Dutch word pappekak (soft faeces).
miki, I think if it is hard to know the difference that is a good thing :) I agree with you in that it is all intertwined, and yes there is a reflection of each other and the world.
It is a part of the blog medium that I pay some attention to. I try very hard to not make my blogs about me. They are about ideas, and about how my art informs or is informed by ideas and by art/artists other than moi.
Now that my main blog is almost 1 year old, I should try to do a study of labels or something to check the posts regarding: "me" versus "not me" content.
Then, I look at the social content blogs that have monster-size readership and wonder why I am being so picky about self-centered content. When you've been in art awhile you get the clue that people actually are interested in what makes an artist tick.
BTW, Corrine, your blog doesn't strike me as being full of self-centered content. Your eclectic and inspiring art shines through.
Thanks Casey. The reason I didn't take the comment personally is because it wasn't directed toward me per se, but at blogs in general. But you know, some people DO enjoy the more personal aspect of blogs. I am with you in that many people WANT to know what makes an artist tick and what leads them to create what they do. That is what attracts me to many artists blogs, including yours. It is finding that balance, but you know I think if we had to start worrying too much about what others think we would end up with generic fake stuff, not the mad wonderful unique stuff that is out there on the blogisphere.
That local artist just doesnt understand what a blog is.
Jan, there seems to be a lot of people who don't understand but usually that is because they haven't really LOOKED, and definitely don't see it's potential.
All I can say is I like your blog. I like the art, I like the music, I like the photos, I like your humour. What I really like is it is like a box of chocolates, you never know what is going to unfold each time you venture to it!
you are Looking fabulososo I might say, going without the chocolates and the other evil bites sure seemed to be worth it! I must give it a try...after the rice krispie square is done.
I may just HAVE to put music back on my blog colette. I am missing it too much. So if I lose a subscriber/s, and I appreciate why it is bothersome to some, I will just have to accept that :(
I sure hope that I get to live in Yellow Springs and meet everyone. You all sound like my kind of people. Square peg round hole thing-I don't know too many people who think like I do. Keep up the great work Corrine!
Well I definatly blog about myself...and my artwork. I love blogging about me...It's not about being self centered, it's my personal space to share and discover what makes me tick. I have learned a lot from other blogs (mostly artists, I don't really like any other kind I find) and I know that many blogs, like this one, have inspired me to greater heights. I don't know why people find it distasteful to have a selfish, introspective part of a life... I mean I think the relationship with self is uber important, and if I don't understand me, then who the hell else is going too? I have had people ask me...don't you just run out of things to talk about yourself? Nope...not in five years...and still going strong. I am a damned treasure...and this life is my adventure. Nuff said. :)
thanks thorngren. YS does pride itself of having a sense of community, and a caring one.
hmbt you have a great attitude. A lot of the bloggers I visit have very rich social lives, family lives, and do community/volunteer work. The word self centered really doesn't fit!
"don't know why people find it distasteful to have a selfish, introspective part of a life..."
I don't either, perhaps it is socialization out of fear, an effort to thwart negative selfish behaviours that can harm society?
I can't really add much here...I've had the same dialogue with myself for quite sometime. People either love 'em or hate 'em.
I'm personally one of those people who likes to read about the life behind the artist. It makes their art so much more interesting and rich.
These days, it feels like everyone has a blog - but yet there are so many people who haven't a clue as to what they're about. I've been trying for the past 2 years to switch my daughter's school to a blog newsletter system to cut down on paper waste, yet, so few people visit.
cynthia, a blog is an excellent vehicle for updates/redirects and info for organizations. What I am finding is that I have to constantly push arts council members to remember to INCLUDE the blog address on their letters, press/ads. It is getting there slowly. The chamber of commerce has been VERY supportive of the arts council blog.
Great post! I have to say that I have been thinking about this alot lately. ALOT of people do seem to think that being an artist is asking for attention. Having a blog just tops it.
The thing is though, having a blog teaches others about us. As artist's...etc. It gives us the ability to share our work with others. Sharing our work with others also gives us the ability to help teach them to try.
I know that I learned about your art from your blog. I am glad that I did tooo! Your blog totally inspires me! I go on walks and want to pick up things like rocks just to paint them. When I go shopping I want to leave behind something. Your blog brought that out in me and taught me that. I don't know if this is the reason that you have a blog but your blog helps people to learn to open up.
If you did not put yourself out there, not as many people would know about you. We would not be able to learn the wonderful and creative things that you teach us all through your blog. THANKS for doing that!
To be totally honest I believe that a person who helps others in the way of entertaining, art, etc. helps MORE people then someone who is NOT willing to put themself out there. As long as they are not self-centered about it and do not get a big head...I don't see what is wrong with helping others.
Just my oppinion.... :)
*HUGS*
It could be argued that everyone seeks attention whenever they do anything that involves something others see the results of, such a volunteer work,a hobby, race car driving, singing, acting, sewing, etc. I often wonder angela why people think others do things JUST for the attention. Spending hours/years dedicated to learning your craft (like art) or spending hours alone in a studio is not the way to do it, LOL! Just go and stand naked outside with a sign that says pay attention to me you bastards would do it, but then that isn't really very satisifying.
It does please me that my blog helps others in some way, although it wasn't intended as such. I am just like a lot of others, I just love creating and the internet is another artistic tool.
Very cool art.
It's you and your art I want to read about!
Take Care
Michael
i love your "me" blog- and of course-my blog-too-(ha) i just have to figure out how to get more people to visit "me" at my blog-it is ourownart -so it has to be about me-but also it si is about us all -my personal opinion is what a dope who doesnt get it- but that's just ME--
thanks -ckw
Those are some wonderful sketches Corinne! I thought a blog's purpose was to share the art you're doing and to talk about yourself! (that's what I do with mine anyways LOL) You have a fantastic blog and I enjoy visiting, reading and looking!
my pennies worth! I have got into blogging only recently, my close friend questions why I do it - simply, its an electronic sketchbook, I can place thoughts and ideas on it and sometimes I get a response. By using a blog, I find myself exploring and looking for more things to inspire me, gain greater knowledge and entertain me. Blogs such as this one does all this plus more.I dont dearch out particular themed blogs, but link from one to another and get suprised by what comes along-using links as a way of map reading of blogging I suppose. its also nice to know that someone, somewhere is taking an interest in you nd what you do
A blog is the new self portrait of an artist and gives more meaning to one's works.
Isn't self centered content the whole point of an artist blog? What is funny to me is that person probably watches reality shows on tv! Artist blogs are a peek into an artist's life and people seem to like that. Your blog is always entertaining! In fact, your blog is one of my favorites! I only wish my blog could be as interesting. :)
I think blogs have lots of purposes. One of those is for people, who hopefully one day purchase your art (in this case) can get to know you and the kind of person who created what they fell in love with. There are also other blogs to provide information about something a person or a group of people love. Or they could be used as a kind of meeting place for a group of people. To me, there are tons and tons of reasons.
I guess there are just as many reason to have a blog as there are bloggers. They are not always easy to keep up with, so the person who puts the effort into writing them deserves the interest of those who visit. Personally, I have met some lovely, lovely people on blogs.
Thanks for bringing up this subject! I am glad this blog is ALL ABOUT YOU!
BLogs ARE personal but it depends on HOW personal and how much they they bop people over the head about themselves that differ. I have read some that re tell, in always gruesome detail, about every pang of gas, painful hangnail and how many time they vacuumed that week.
I find you to be refreshing and insightful and always learn something new.
I have met such lovely people through blogging and learned so much about so many things. I find that so uplifting.
You and you alone could make blogging about bowel movements interesting m'dear. You have the artist's flair for words as well.
And gosh do you look hot there girl. Those were the words my son just used to describe you! Not that I don't think so too!
Take care and now I am off to tell stories about me on my blog...me and my colon, me and my sinuses, me and my liver...all fascinating stuff you know.
Hugs,
Sue
