Sketchbook War Embroidery

Sometimes I like to put photographs of my work into my sketchbook and then play around it, see where it leads. I like the swan with the forked tongue (black glitter). This text is what I used on the actual painting in red letters that is spreading out above the wall.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

Powerful but scary quote, considering the source and the times!

What a strange quote to put with those pictures.

Not really dr.john fear is a great tool to manipulate the public to the will of those in power. Fear of mushroom clouds and wmd was very effective.

O.M.G...you know I am a quote-aholic, and that one is so perfect for the work and the world as it is today. Perfect!!!
As always I love the book, the swan is inspirational...you have so much magic!

The swan is beautiful and I wish I could say I painted it but it is actually a collage (I got it out of the new york times sunday magazine). I wish I could remember the artists name, but I just ripped pages from the mag and cut snippets, bits and parts out of the pages.

Dr. John the swan is a beautiful creature with a forked tongue like a snake. That is how I feel about many of our politicians. They speak beautifully, wear nice suits, wear the mask of moral authority or knowing what is best for us,but deep down they have an agenda that is not honest and not to our best interests.

Every time I see your amazing sketchbooks I keep asking myself how come it is I have never done this! I can only conclude I keep a sketchbook in my head of sorts! Interesting that we all work in such different ways.

I pinched the idea for my new feature from your blog of course! It was a toss up between the Beatles 'All you need is love' or Neil Young's 'Let's Impeach the President'. From the quotes you put on your site, I think you must be a person after my own heart. I think it is useful to share these insites because it says something about the person behind the artist and where they are coming from in life. I agree with every word of your last comment before this by the way.

Meant to say 'insight' - not 'insite'. My English is going to pot since I moved to Spain!

Thanks Philip :)

As to the music I pinched it from another blog LOL! Oh gosh I can't remember which one, I have visited so many.
I was thinkin about U today, and wishing my art was more wild like yours.. :)

Goering, was of course a master at propaganda. Maybe this swan is really a goose(gander) an opposite to the famous kids story. A swan who speaks lies with a forked tongue, that eventually turns into a goose. That is a enlightening quote and speaks much about our leaders and the events of our day. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

Beaman, what were they thinking? the logo is 'Orrible". Queen has lost her chance, I am no longer a subject of hers and unable to help out :0
