Cockroach Time!

Yep, it's time for my seasonal found objects, "decorated rubber cockroaches". Since painting has slowed down while I completely finish my three panels I decided to start my cockroach collection. I did these one's last year, but my new one's are pretty much the same. The screaming mouth roach is one of my favourites. Mine of course are nothing compared to the live cockroach brooch which sport real Swarovski crystals or Catherine Chalmers who paints live roaches, and some of them are very cleverly disguised. Personally I think I will stick with the rubber one's, if you don't mind :)

I am a beetle, well that is my animal totem :) To find out what yours is visit here and share your results :)

Lesly tagged me on a meme from Christy at Christy's Coffee Break ..... it's a meme called In the Spotlight. I wanted to answer just one question.
What's your favorite childhood memory?
Sitting on the front doorstep in Hetton-le-Hole (an old mining village) when I was about 5 watching the stars twinkle in the black velvet sky, and eating home made chips (french fries)with malt vinegar mum had put in a paper cone. It was a beautiful night and I felt loved and happy.

Naj at My Depictions did the most ADORABLE painting of Rufus based on the photograph below. Got to check it out and let me know what you think.

These are so awesome and I love the glittery one and the fancy feather ones! I wouldn't be crazy about one of those live 'brooches' in your link crawling around me me LOL and I think yours is a lot prettier! I found out my bug totem is a butterfly, too cool! I hope you had a Happy Mother's Day J.B.!

I'm a spider... I don't think I'll be painting any of those any time soon.

Oh I want all of those cockroaches!!!
You know how I love them so!!!

And I much prefer yours to the fancy pants ones!!
I really really love the screaming mouth cockie.
It's how I feel now, only I can't open my mouth due to two swollen and bulbous post-op hamster cheeks.

Is there a mewling mouth cockroach?

Gorgeous, as always...

Off to find out what animal I am.
Hope it's not a f*cking hamster...

Let's see, we have something in common...I'm a beetle too, though bee came in 2nd.

Having a live roach crawl on oneself just seems wrong. I couldn't do it. I'm still freaked out by the roaches in the B movie "Damnation Alley" from the '80s. So, I much prefer your painted rubber ones to the others.

I appreciate that you won't paint live one o.O

Love to you!!!

Cockroach ornaments? No thanks! I'll stay with my weta letter box.
I saw Rufus' picture.Great portrait of the little guy, right down to the "Who-did-this-to-me?" eyes.

By the way, my totem is a cricket.
Cockroaches scare me... but not yours=:)

Bee here. Rufus painting is cute.

Thought about casting your painted roaches in resin?

I'm glad the roachs are rubber and not the real thing.

I have never seen such an appealing cockroach! If one of yours had come flying at me late that night in South Florida, I might not have screamed fallen over a box and sprained my ankle! I would have invited him in for tea! I esecially like the ones with feathers...

Loved your memory...

Hugs,
Sue

TY for posting about Rufus!

Oops you might not find him now - just did a website building article! He's a bit further down the page below that.

I just love the cockraches BTW (can't say the same about real ones - one fell out of my hair once!)

Once when I was in Cork Street (posh private gallery area in London) there were some over life size figures made up from something small but repeating - when I looked closer they were huge metallic coloured glittering beetles glued together to create .
the outer shape of the figures

Yours are very jazzy :)

The Roaches are awesome. Turning something that most people think of as disgusting into a beautiful work of art, I love that. I love the challenge that can come from just doing it and the challenge to change someone's perspective. Sweet.

BTW, I was a Praying Mantis... not sure what that says about me. :D

Very cool roach...love to see these all over the walls somewhere. (I was a spider - didn't surprise me at all because I never hurt them and hate it when others do...)
