Something Old
My goodness, I can't believe I did this embroidery 30 years ago. It's from a transfer and has a Jacobean feel to it, although I didn't use jacobean style stitiching. Here is how a traditional Jacobean embroidery or crewel work looks. I remember my gran had the same one on her wall that she had done when I was a little girl, but I think it was silver thread on black cloth and more detailed. My one compensation for having to go to granny's house (very formal teatime, don't speak unless spoken to, keep your back straight) was being able to look at her embroidery, particular the peacock one.Something New
And not something I did. I got this very special aceo in the mail from a dead canny blogger called cynthia in her anniversary art give away. It really made me smile that she used the word chuffed, but also the image of a chameleon. I have an ability to pick up accents and no matter who I'm with I can start talking like them within minutes. I don't do it on purpose, and I don't notice I am doing it. It used to drive my sister mad and she would say I was like a Chameleon. Add to that another blogger, Philip, says I am like 50 different artists, I would say the choice of chameleon is uncannily spot on, although I don't have the bulging eyes.

Heeheehee! Maybe I knew that about you and intuitively realized that the chameleon would fit you perfectly! I was thinking about various images and was drawn to this one for you. "Canny", another word to add to my Geordie vocab list.
Love the peacock too, one of my fave birds.
Wow and Wow! These are both awesome!
I love visting your blog because I never know what I will find here!
:)
Wonderful work!!!!! BOTH of them are amazing! You are a very creative person! It's great to see what you've come up with next!
impressive embroidery. you must have been really young when you did it :-)
Whew! Glad you had a definition link for dead canny. :-)
So did you embroider you jeans too? I only got one leg done.
I like the peacock.
That embroidery is just absolutely gorgeous! I love it:)
hiay everyone, thanks for dropping in. Jan you got more done that moi, I think I just got one pocket done LOL! Sue, I was 21 when I embroidered the peacock. I have done embroidery since I was little. Most women in my family, mum, nan, gran were very adept at it and showed me. The word canny is used in this country but not in the same context. Here it means shrewd, frugal.
Love the peacok and the aceo...funny how some people just follow thier inticts and come up with the right thing, eh? I am totally the same with people and accents, I end up sounding like them too without noticing. My mate man and I play a game with people we meet...we listen to them for a moment and ask them is they are from (fill in the blnak). We usually get it right spot on...and people are amazed by this little talent...we think it's just fun.
We have done this for years and it's funny because we speak with no accent at all even though we are both from the south...and people can't figure out where we are from.
OMG! I can't spell today..sorry about that.
Well, it wasnt the whole leg. Just to the knee. But I did put some jute lace on the bottom of both legs.
And yet another winner from the multi talented brit. Anything you can't do (I mean that you want to mention here to the world).
Beautiful stitching.
Take Care
Michael
