ChamberPot Gallery

Even though my studio time ended up in disaster yet again I shall attempt to work on my painting (just the teeth) for the ChamberPot Gallery. I can't imagine I can make too much of a disaster with just the teeth, or can I?

So after two days of avoiding the studio like the plague I am now getting withdrawal symptoms and itching to get in there and do *something*. So see ya later :)

LATER: Angel is made and ready to be sprayed white. Hum, wonder where I'll hang her in town!!!!!!!!!!!

Studio demons

Those studio demons really have had their way these last two days. It seems everything I touched I made a huge mess of. The wip progess is ruined, messed up the face, sanded it down, repainted, sanded it down. ugh!!!!! The most productive thing I managed to do was change the lightbulb on one of my assemblages.
Not sure whether to even bother going into the studio today :(
whine! whine! whine!

Democracy and "The Patriot"

Are you listening?

“freedom means nothing without dissent” this is the voice of a greek resistance fighter who lost half her family to the Holocaust.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
Joseph Goebbels

Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks to some of my family and friends who have viewed my blog and made some helpful suggestions and been supportive. Hope you enjoy visiting again. :)
Quote of the day
How important are the visual arts in our society? I feel strongly that the visual arts are of vast and incalculable importance. Of course I could be prejudiced. I am a visual art.

Work In Progress

This is part of a painting I am working. Plan to sand down parts of it and then glaze to add colour to the face and hands.

The questions I'm asked sometimes!

Why is it that when you tell some people (only if they ask what I do) you're an artist they say:
"oh! what a nice hobby, must be so relaxing?"
No, I don't do it as a hobby, it is my profession, my obsession, my life, I work on it everyday. Then I get the proverbial:
"oh do you sell paintings?"
Yes.
"oh do you make a lot of money"
sheesh! do I ask them how much they earn?
"are you good?"
Now, how do you answer that question? Some think so :)

I don't know if I'm good. I know when I've done something and it's worked I'm pleased with the effort. However by then I'm already thinking how I can improve. People's tastes are so subjective that even *if* I was lucky enough to be a brilliant genius some might say it isn't their cup of tea and find something to dislike about it.

First Post

I created this blog so I could blabber on about art and general opinions that most people probably don't give a rat's bottom about. Now that I have created it I am lost for words (that tremble is the shock wave of disbelief coming from my friends and family). Yes, believe it or not I can be caught in the throes of being gobsmacked now and again. And it is true: I can be shy sometimes, or is it that British reserve.
